Full Body Paint job

I'm getting back into modding with a new high millage (170k) 94 LT1 (gonna do a stroker rebuild)

Anyway I've been thinking about doing a maaco paint job because their the cheapest place I know of. The car will be a streetable race car and will be garaged or covered almost all the time except for the track. Its green and i've been thinking about orange matallic type paint.

Basically I'm wondering how durable the paint is and how expensive its going to be to get it to actually look nice instead of it looking like a paint job on a die cast car. IE w/ a clear coat

Even from Maaco you're going to spend at least $12-1300 for the base/clear alone. Add in the fact that you want metallic and body work may need to be done, you're looking at a couple grand.

Maaco jobs range the gamut from crap to great, depending of course on which Maaco you bring it to, and what type of job you require. I've heard good things and i've heard terrible things. My recommendation would be to do the body work yourself, but if you do that, you risk losing your warranty because they didn't do the work.

A good base/clear from Maaco is supposed to shine like new for up to 6 years if taken care of properly. But, like every paint job, if it isn't... then things will happen.

I had my 96z28 painted white at 1aday paint a year and it looks great. The trick is to do all of the prep and sanding your self. But I do not no how good their matalics turn out.The best thing to do is to prep the car out yourself than go to various paint shops and check out the matalic paint jobs comming out of that shop befor you decide to take the car in.I think you will be happy with a low budget paint shop as long as you take good care of the paint and research different shops befor taking it in.By the way my paint job only caust me $600.GOOD LUCK.

All I did befor taking the car in was remove all the lights and lenses, pulled a cupple dings out of the rear quorter panels, block Sanded the entire car by hand with 220 than 320 and then 400 for the final sanding making shure I got the edges really good. Then I had the car towed to the paint shop and let them do the rest.
