bumper material?

well my bumper and LH fender are cracked. ive got some friends in who said theres an easy fix for it, like fiberglass resin, but since the bumper and fender arent fiberglass, they need to know what it is so they can figure how to fix it.

so what are the bumper and fenders made out of? i did a search and found people saying "flexible plastic," etc., but exactly what is it? ive seen "sheet molded compound." is that it?

Re: bumper material?

The fenders are a semi ridgid plastic and the bumper is a urethane. These take two totally different methods to fix. The bumper will use a flexible urethane repair kit that can be had at any auto paint shop. The fenders will use a semi ridgid repair compound that is similar to the urethane, but actaully has some strength to it. Be advised, if the cracks are is a stressed location, no repair will totally fix the problem. Road bumps and just everyday driving will cause the repair to crack again. Make sure you put some re-enforcment on the back of the repair to give the plastic and urethane a fighting chance.
