cam change when changing from alcohol to gasoline?
cam change when changing from alcohol to gasoline?
I bought a 557" big block for my '93 firebird. The motor was procharged and ran on alcohol. It's getting freshened before I get it, and all I'm really changing is the fuel, I'll run C16. The seller will change cams if I want, but I don't really think it's necessary. Here's the specs on the cam that's in it now:
I'll be running a procharger too, but it will be intercooled.
thoughts?
thanks

It will be EFI of course, it was some weird blow through setup.. I'm thinking the cam will be fine.. No emissions down here in LA, Kevin. This probably won't see much street duty anyway though...

Rich, they're the BB2 Xtras and a edelbrock super victor intake. Hell, the whole rundown is this:
557 in. BBC (Intake to pan, no carb or distributor)
0 runs since freshened
(60 total passes)
10:1 compression.
Engine made 1504 rear wheel horsepower @ a conservative 18lbs of boost. I have the chassis dyno sheet. Crank HP was over 1800HP on that pull. Engine was built to withstand 30lbs plus, we never ran more than 26lbs. HP @ 26lbs is approximately 2300HP.
This engine would be a great pump gas piece with the use of nitrous, blower engine, or turbo engine. All the best parts were used in construction. It is currently at engine builders for mid season checkup, motor will be freshened and ready for sale at the end of week, we are willing to put whatever grind cam you desire back in the motor if you purchase the engine.
60 total passes on the engine.
Specs below:
Dart M block - 4.50 bore, never hurt
o-ringed
Over $3000 in machine work
Lunati pro mod crank
GRP aluminum rods (3000HP + capable)
Ross custom gas ported pistons - built for boost but will also handle gobs of nitrous
Akerly and Childs XTREME rings
ISKY red zone roller lifters
ISKY custom grind cam (will give specs to the buyer of the engine)
BB2XTRA CNC'd heads
2.30 intake 1.88 exhaust
flow over 400 intake, 288 exhaust
Ferrera's top of the line SS valves
PSI springs (over 1100lbs open seat pressure)
Titanium retainers etc.
JESEL competition series shaft rockers
JESEL belt drive
Edelbrock super victor intake
Charlie's sheet metal pan
Moroso sheet metal valve covers
Blueprinted high volume oil pump

Oops, didn't catch that it was using a blower. Cam sounds fine. The motor sounds like a damn nice piece. What kind of tranny you puttin' behind that bad boy?

Hope it's a 5 speed Lenco with a clutch management system.On DR's no less.
I would like to see that run, bet it would go like hell if it would bite and stay off the bumper.
