Stock gears to 3.73's = Hitting rev limiter?

This for my buddy. He has a 95 Z28, and put a new rear in with 3.73's. Now everytime his tranny gets to the top of first, he hits the rev limiter. People are telling him it's his transmission slipping. I could of swore I read about LT1's and LS1's having this problem after a gear swap. I was just wondering what needs to be done.

Thanks guys

he has to have his computer tuned, or his speedo will be off, and the shifts will be off....

Thanks for the reply. Can anyone give me an explination? If the tranny is suppose to shift at 6000 rpm, why wouldn't it shift at 6000 rpm after the gears?

It depends on your speedometer reading, so if the speedo is off, it probably wont want to shift correctly.

mine did that when I went from 2.73s to 3.73s. had madz28 do a pcm for me and it was fixed.

don't want to hijack thread. but I have a 93 speeddensity, I went from 323's to 373's. and my speedo is off around 20mph. counting the 17" tires. anyway mine shifts way too soon also, so if I show it shifting at 6,200 on the rpm guage is that right, is it really 6200 rpm's. or is it sooner? is this the same problem? plus I can't change my computer. if I put in the speedo gear in the tranny to change the speedo will that fix it..thanks

The shift is based on speed not RPM. If the speedo is off, the shifts wil be too. He needs reprogramming.

just needs a reprogramming...your gears will change your RPM range relative to the speed your going.....look on pcmforless.com or madz28.com for a tuner. They can also calibrate his other mods into the pcm
