chambers of my heads
chambers of my heads
hey, i just got my heads back from the machine shop. I had to get them rewelded. i bought them from another board member that said they ate a cam bearing, the heads told another story. sweet deal on them though so it worked out.
basically the machine shop shaved 7-8 thousandths off the heads. they are the 95+ aluminum lt1 heads. i am trying to figure out what my combustion chamber volume will be, and if i will need to shave down the intake manifold, or if i can just slap on thick gaskets. thanks

Re: chambers of my heads
It takes about .0065" removal per cc on those heads. You need to cc them, not make a guess. If they have only had .007" total removed from factory thickness you will be fine with alignment.
Re: chambers of my heads
No need for thicker gaskets unless you want to keep compression low.
Unless of course they had already been shaved. (are they ported?)
You can have the chamber volume measured if you want to know how big they are.
It just takes a basic CC kit, the shop will have one.
You can do it at home if you have something to cover the chamber
(plexiglass with a hole in it) and something to measure water with

Re: chambers of my heads
For .007, 7.20" should be fine.
The best way to verify is to mock it up and measure with a pushrod length checker.
