What'll I need to handle a 300 shot?

I'm starting project Next Car. The goal is for the car to drive completely stock until the nitrous is hit. So what kind of engine would be needed to handle a big shot like that? This is my first venture into the bottom end, so I really don't know to much about it. I did the top end on my last car but this will be new to me. I'm hoping a can buy a used engine and drop it in a 3.6 then hook up nitrous to it all for under 12k. I know all about the necessary tranny upgrades and stuff too. I just need to know what the engine will need to survive.

A 300hp system should be dual staged. You don't want to hit the motor with that much nitrous all at once, especially at low rpm. Beyond that, it's kind of obvious. Dealing just with the bottom end, the pistons are going to be the key. You need pistons specifically designed for nitrous and heavy duty wrist pins. For what I think of as "mid-grade" rods, the Lunati "Pro-Mod" rods are a good choice as is the Callies Dragonslayer crank. The "Hellfire" rings would also be a good choice.

I don't know what kind of fuel you plan to use, but I am a bit sceptical of pump gas and a 300hp shot. A low CR may be needed to make that work, I am not sure.

Glad its working well for you David. Ever get any times from it yet? I've always been curious about what it was really able to do once it was 100% done. I've got the LS1 bug now. I didn't care much for that body style above all else and I'd really like a black car and leather and what power seats, just a little more tame DD.
