ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
POOPPYYY
I pulled up next to a gt Stang and some little punk kid was sitting behind the wheel. I asked him what year he, said 98. It was a stick but i said what they hey, lets go. I was pumped and figured I had a pretty good shot. It started out good and I had him off the line until about 20 when he caught up, when he shifted into second i pulled ahead for a little then he caught backup to me at about 35 and passed me. When my auto shifted into second at 40 he was about his back bumper to my front end. Im like ****......I kept going to about 70 and he had me by about 1 1/2 car lengths
wtf happened i thought 98+ v6s could hang with pre 99 gt stangs...???
he obviously had exhaust but i also have full cat back system and intake and 160degree thermo.....and still i lost
what the heck happened?????

Re: ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
I'd say being 1 1/2 car behind is pretty good considering he has a 260hp V8 and you have a 200hp V6. Those Gt's can be pretty snappy but just can't keep up with LS1's. I wouldn't hang my head to that, it's pretty good I'd say. My SS got it's a$$ kicked by a Viper SRT-10 on the highway last month, I knew I didn't have a chance to begin with but he made me look like I was sitting still when I was doing 120. All I could do was laugh and slow back down.
Re: ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
Actually 98 Mustangs make 220hp, it went to 260 in 99. Still thats not too bad. He already outhorsepowered you from the get go even with your mods and plus I think the big disadvantage was he had a manual and you had an auto. If you're car is like mine, a non-Y87 car, you have the open diffy with 3.08's in the rear. If you had a 5 speed, 3.42's and a LSD out back, you probably could've beaten him.
Either way, I'm sure hes not too happy about BARELY beating a v6 Camaro.

like i said iw as happy at first got him off the line then he whipped my butt....yea i dun think mine is Y87 but i duno how to tell...i got dual exhaust but i duno how to really tell.also how do i get 3.42 gears for my 2000....also what is LSD out back??
Re: ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
I thought all 2000 on up had 3.42's standard. My car had them and it was bottom of the line. Is your exhaust the factory exhaust?? When I had my 2000 with Dynomax exhaust, FTRA and ghetto lid I beat my friends 98 GT. It was a manual and he only had exhaust done. I beat him by a car. 2 times to show I just didn't get lucky. Not much but I was pretty happy. Especially since everybody was raggin on me for getting an auto V6
Then after that day, he kept shut.

Re: ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
Just how do you know the guy had a thermostat....by looking at the car? Same for the intake...anything he had done just by looking at it.
I thought I was good.....
He makes a chunk more power and a LOT more torque stock.
The kid could not drive because that is an easy high 14 second car...compared to your time...not your internet time because Joe-smoe ran it so I can...but your real, took it to the track yourself ET.

i have the CAI and thermo...but i know he had atleast a muffler because i heard it......the reason i was mad is because i heard my car with a few mods could hang with a pre 99 gt stang..and when i didnt i was confused to say the least
Re: ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
To check if you have 3.42's just look on your driver's side door and look for the code GU6 I believe it was. That means you have 3.42's. Stock wise, of course the GT will take the V6. But a couple of mods will help out. Get a good launch and you can beat them, but not by a bunch.
Re: ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
So you lost to a GT...he has a V8, you have a V6. Even though the HP difference isn't as much as a 99+ GT, he still has the advantage.
Be glad you kept up as well as you did...he puts down approx. 20 more HP than you stock. You mentioned he had an exhaust...he probably had an intake as well. That makes the HP gap greater. Your intake and exhaust won't close that gap enough.
Our 3.8s can give pre-99 GTs a good run but they still have the advantage. With enough mods though, we can take some of them. Keep in mind though...they still have that advantage. If they're modded too it might be a short race. They have a huge aftermarket.
"Not to hijack"...god I hate that. MSG the person directly...

Re: ARRGG Lost to A GT!!!!!
a 98 GT makes 225 hp and 290 ft lbs of torque. that torque output alone is going to muscle the GT out ahead of a 3800 car. if i were you i would be happy about the race. the kid probably thought he was gonna blow you away, meanwhile you hung on his back bumper the whole time.
secondly, ignore the weight rating, your car does NOT weigh anywhere near 4100 pounds. you're guess of 3300 is pretty accurate give or take 50 pounds.
also the thermostat needs to be matched to the fan speeds for any kind of real benefit. the way your car is, the thermostat is opening earlier but the fans are still off until the original temp settings. in short, your passing the coolant through the radiator for no reason because the fans aren't doing any extra cooling. you can reset fan temps with a pcm tune or a hypertech programmer (sorry, not actually sure if they make one for the 3.8, anyone wanna chime in on that?)
