Question I know nothing about scanning. Help me out.

It's been raining lots, and I think my optishyte got wet and is on the way out. It was suggested I get some kind of scanner to see what the SES light is all about (it went off since then but it is evil). Do I need a cheap laptop (don't have one) or is there some kind of Nintendo Gameboy-like device that does the scanning, and how much does all this cost? I have LT1 Edit but I don't actually have LT1 Edit. By the way, if you see this post Andrew, gimme an E-mail. Any help will get you an autographed picture of me.

You can use a desktop if you can get it close enough to the car for reading DTC's. A laptop is needed if you are going to log data while driving. I use http://www.autotap.com/. The DOS version works the best for me.
