Replace Bose HU in 1995 with Pioneer?

Well, I want to replace the HU in my Z so I can have a better sounding system and aux/USB inputs as well. Now I figured there might be a problem with doing that since I heard Bose did all their stuff against modern audio norms and after a search, I guess that's right.
My question is...what am I gonna need to make this work?
It seems like I could get the Pioneer and a scosche (sp?) adapter that'll allow me to use the stock speakers but I'm not entirely sure.
Really, I don't want to do this if I have to do some more work (ie. replacing the speakers and/or speaker wires). It's just not worth my time as I won't have this car forever.
So is it as simple as throwing in the radio and the adapter or am I gonna need to do a lot more work to make this work?
Thanks in advance guys.

Best way to do it with the Bose or Monsoon systems is to gut the entire thing and replace all of it.

You're going to need 4 6.5" or 6.75" speakers; a bunch of 16ga speaker wire; your headunit; and the wiring adapter (although you're only going to use the wire adapter for power, ground, power antenna, lights, etc, not speakers).

Well, that's what I'm trying to avoid. I really don't have any intentions of replacing any speakers or wire.
If it comes down to all of that, I'll just leave the stock one in there.
I'm just hoping I can add an adapter and hopefully replace it like any other car stereo.

Just to set this thread straight, YES you can just swap the HU without a lot of headache. I did it in my 96 Camaro. The hardest part is keeping the CD changer. But I put a HU with a USB drive in there, so I just used a thumbdrive instead of CD's.

Get one of those GM adapter harnesses so you don't have to hack up the stock harness.

Was yours the Bose system? That's what I'm really worried about. I could always work with the harness.
