Tranny problem, help! 6 speed
I was driving last night and when i went to shift to 4th it grinded bad. It didn't sound like like the gear was grinding though but it would feel liek it it would throw the shifter away from it, but it wouldn't let me shift to 4th...so i tried shifting to another gear, and it wa slike the tranny locked out all my gears. Pulled up to a red light(thank god) and with a little work it was able to shift to 1st, and then seems fine the rest of the night.
What the hell happened to it, and could it turn into a serious problem?

ok, took it out again, and it didn't exactly do the same problem, but it did make a weird noise....not sure how to explain it except that it was kinda like a humming/groaning noise, with a slight vibration. But didn't do the whole time..only sometimes

Also, as far as performance, i haven't noticed any loss of it...of course i also haven't really gotten on it while hearing the noise for fear of what could happen...no slipping or anything...yet anyway

4th gear might be bad, and some metal pieces got in between the other gears....fluke accident, but it happened to my friends mustang...its not hard to pull the t56 apart

From the sounds of it, it could also be a clutch problem. Check your clutch fluid - it might be low. Incomplete disengagement will cause similar shifting problems. If pumping the clutch makes it easier to shift, you more than likely have air in the clutch hydraulics.

there is no slipping or loss of power...yet anyway.
ok, a better way to describe the noise...
If you take one of those toy cars that you pull back and let them go..pull it back and pick it up and let the wheels spin. that is what it sounds like...on a larger scale and with a light vibration
don't ask how i came up with that..i'm just weird i guess
It will start and then just kinda fade out. Does it more often when downshifting at a slightly higher speed, like 5th to 3rd at 50 mph.
