oil dipstick tube

oil dipstick tube
Hey Members,
Just recently had car running with oil dipstick removed. It looked
like a volcano erupting with oil spurting out. Is this normal? Is there that
much pressure in the pan to make that happen? Also how difficult is it to
remove the tube from the block and reseal it. I noticed a leak from the
inlet to the block.

Re: oil dipstick tube
I'd say it was normal, seeing that you have a hole in the block next to a crankshaft that is spinning and slinging oil. It's not pressure.
One bolt secures the dipstick and it is a friction fit into the hole in the block. Putting the tube in the freezer might make it easier to install. You can use a little RTV, if it has a sealing problem. If the end of the tube going into the block is bent or out of round, installation will be more difficult. A new tube might be advisable in some cases.
