z28 Engine Blew, In desperate need of help

Ok so I have a 2002 Camaro z28. It has 75,000 miles on it. I started my car yesterday and heard this terrible sound so i shut it off and looked under it and found oil shooting out and big thick chunks of metal (of course, my luck, from the engine block) and so now my cars engine is officially toast. The body and paint is excellent, it has an awesome $1500 system, and it had a new cold air intake, new exhaust, and a new rebuilt transmission. Because i have all these newer components I'd like to keep the car and just replace the engine. It seems like the 350 is very expensive to replace and it may just be worth getting something newer and better. Im thinking of swapping the engine with something a little bigger, possibly a 383, but dont know if my transmission would work with anything but the stock 350. Could anyone with engine knowledge guide me in the right direction as to options for replace with the same 350 or a newer crate engine and maybe give me some prices if you know what your talking about. Any help would be great. Thank you

What is your budget, you can find a used LS1 for about 1,000 have it rebuilt and stroked out. probably total 2,000 depending on where you are located. I have seen old school 350's in the 4th gen camaro's they are cheaper as a platform. Is the top half of your motor ok (heads, intake)?

Yeah, the top half is fine and I have like $6000-7000 to spend total with it completely finished ready to go which is kind of why I feel like I can get something bigger or better

well that is a great budget wish I could say the same for me, but I would get a new short block possibly a LS6 would be an upgrade. I wouldnt wanna get a crate motor because just I had the money for it. I would get LS motor and build it up, with that much money I would pro charge it.

You could look up/ call Texas Speed and Performance, they have short & long blocks for sell. You could also check the LS1tech parts classifieds, there are always a few motors forsale on there. And if your wanting to build one, you could always try to find another ls1, 5.3, or 6.0 motor. Good luck getting the car going agian.

With that kind of budget I would be looking at getting an LQ9 and building it up.

I also agree with a 6.0. you'll need an adapter plate for the tranny, but everything else will swap over, heads pan, intake, acc.

6.0s go for 700+ of you can go with an lq4 or a 5.3 lm7 for around 500. Then slap a turbo on it while your t it

Why would he need an adapter, as long as he gets a 6.0 from a 2002-2004 it will bolt right up, 99-01 will likely have the long crank, but the short crank is the same as the ls1
