Installing SFC's

Installing SFC's
For those of you with sfc's, who did you get to install them, and what did it cost. Reason I ask is I emailed thunder racing and they quoted me $250(!!!) for the install. I think this is pretty unreasonable, isn't it?

Re: Installing SFC's
I paid $163 to have mine installed. They're the BMR boxed type. I thought that was a little steep, but my mechanic did a first rate job and made sure everything was in there tight and there were no rattles.

I think 250 is pretty reasonable. I can't imagine doing it for under $100. You've got to pull carpet back, protect fuel lines from weld splatter, prep for weld, including any fitting, protect the welds, etc.
I might dig deeper. What are they doing with the differnt prices? Are they pulling carpet back? Do they use weldable primer to prevent rust thru under the welded area? Will they prep the weld area, or do they scratch it with a screwdriver and turn the welder up further? Do they preload the SFCs? Most people do to help counteract sag. And how do they level the car? Do they just throw it on a hoist and weld? Cause if your car is twisted even a little, it can turn out badly.
Just my thoughts. Not a pro, but I personally welded my edelbrock SFCs last winter. It will take a pro several hours to do it right, I had a full day into mine. Most shops are +$70 an hour. You get what you pay for. $100 is 90 minutes labor maximum. Maybe they can do it in 90 minutes. But would you really want them to with something as permanent as SFCs? Not me.
Good Luck!
