Is this enough clearence for a 29in Slick? (pics)

Here's a picture of a rear fender mod in progress to a 97 SS. It is running 29.5" ET Drags. They thought they had enough clearance after some body work, and when speeds on the chassis dyno ran over 165MPH the tires grew enough to contact not only the wheel opening, but the inner fender liner. This pic shows it after the latest cuts. It made a 160MPH pass last weekend with no rubbing.
