Re: Car Won't Start please help

I guess I'm speed reading 93 in you signature and missing the 95 replacement engine. Wrong drive photo.

The "pin" projecting from the cam sprocket is the cam dowel pin. Apparently it's too short to engage the correct hole in the back of the Opti.

Go to Shoebox's website for the 95-97 Opti drive photo. He also has info on the correct length for the dowel pin.

Re: Car Won't Start please help

Hello Injuneer. I am also a LT1 Pontiac caretaker. The red 1995 Trans Am I am working on had an Opti failure. Under moderate acceleration, around 4500 RPM I had a cough and sputter and the motor stayed running until I pulled over and shut it down. I had a tow home and got the bird in the garage. I suspected the pancake and got the front disassembled. Sure enough I found the rotor tip sticking out of the cap. Unfortunately I had not found this forum yet , and purchased a Delphi unit. I also replaced the H2O pump, hoses, plugs, wires, ICM, and the coil. All of these are AC parts. I bought the car 2 years ago, but I have no idea what has been done to the internals. I do know that it's a beast. Long tubes, throttle body are aftermarket. It is an Auto trans, and feels warmed over, shifts are great and feels like torque converter has been upgraded. I have followed every you and shoebox direct everyone to check. I am just missing something. I didn't see a reply after the last post from USAairman93. I was just wondering what was the outcome was for him. I also never checked the length of the drive pin on the cam. I will get back to it and be more diligent this time. Is there anything else that I should check, I have good readings on the voltage tests per shoebox, but I have only 32 lbs. Fuel pressure, but no spark at coil wire. Could this be a problem? . Thanks for all you do for us LT1 owners. I like your Formula !!

Re: Car Won't Start please help

Let me make sure I understand.... died, you found rotor was loose, you installed Delphi Opti (nothing wrong with Delphi), and it still will not start.

Does it attempt to fire, maybe a few sputters? If so, might indicate a problem with the dowel pin alignment.

You indicated you ran tests. Did you get1 to 4 volts AC on the white wire from the PCM to the ignition control module?
