What is the easiest easy to get to the top two bolts on the transmission? Tried removing the Trans out of my Trans am before but couldn't get them even with a long extension. I felt behind the top of the engine and I can feel the bolts, can they be removed from the top?

Yes, they can be removed from the top. I had to use a couple of extensions put together and alot of muscle. If they are really stubborn, I use my electric impact to help loosen.

Take the crossmember out first and let the trans droop. Use a Looong extension.

Just started removing the Trans and the drivers side 3 bolts were really easy. The passenger bottom bolt was easy but the one above it is giving me a hard time. I can only get a1/4 ratchet on it right now without removing the y pipe, but there is no room to get my hand in there good to try and break it loose. I didn't even try the top bolt yet and I can't even see it.

Any advice?

I honestly think it would be easiest to remove the y pipe. Also, some very long extensions along with a good swivel socket. The combo will become your best friend

Re: removing 4l60e

If i have to remove the y pipe I am just buying a set of headers because this is the stock exhaust and it's not looking good to get off without a bolt breaking.

Now, the top bolt on the pass. side, do you just have to kinda feel for it? I could easily see the top bolt on the other side and it was really easy to get to.

Like mentioned above, get a jack under the Trans, pull the crossmember and then lower the Trans to pitch it down in the rear, should be much easier. Just pay attention and don't drop it too far, or you will be buying a $40 oil pressure sending unit too. It WILL hit the firewall. Look wayyyy up and you will see it near the back of the d/s head at the rear of the intake

Oil sensor is fine,I have a Trans jack under the transmission.

What happens to the engine once the Trans is removed? Does it go back up and how do you get it to lean again to get the transmission back in.

Just got the Trans out. Actually fairly easy.

Should I put it in now or wait to install the headers?

I'd wait, but I'm sure they can be done with the Trans in...I just know that I had a very pleasant amount of room to work with without a tranny in the way
