Clutch engages too soon

I searched through many threads and did not see a definitive answer.

I have a 96 Camaro that I changed to a Centerforce clutch several years ago and a few miles. I would have to look back at tickets to give you exact figures, but more years than miles.

Two days ago, the clutch engagement moved from mid pedal to very close to the floor. It does not seem to be slipping and seems to be fully engaging, but it is noticeably different. I would prefer it be further out especially for traffic.

Any suggestions? and thanks.

Little more info. It is not slipping, I tested that yesterday.

If I pump the clutch it seems to get weaker (or the engagement even closer to the floor), so it makes for touchy slipping coming out of first. And, not sure why, the clutch actually seems like it is gripping harder.

I can drive, but it is a new and not all pleasant experience.

Does the pedal feel softer when the engagement is closer to the floor? Does it ever seem to "fix" itself, and then go back to a mushy pedal feeling? See if your hydraulics are leaking at all.

Thanks for the reply.

It does not get better, in fact if I slip it at a light for instance, it gets worse. Like the engagement is out of reach and then it wants to stall. I tried to pump it up to see if that would help and there is no difference.

How can I diagnose this any better?

Ok, it is the master cylinder.

Is there any reason to seek out an aftermarket part on this or just go with a stocker?

McLeod make an "adjustable" MC, if you want to be able to adjust pedal height. Other than that, the stocker is fine.

Did McLeod get all the bugs worked out? They stopped making the adj masters for a while because of the problems they had with them.

Don't know. I haven't worked with one for about 4 years. The one that I helped install then worked fine.

Mcleod's Gen II master seems to work fine in my car.
