air induction on 1981 z28
I just purchased a 1981 Z and the air induction is not working. I put power to the connector and it opens/closes. I can't tell where the orange wire is routed to. Any help would be appreciated.

The orange wire is your hot wire, and in a 81 model it should be the power wire from the temperature switch on the block to the actuator. From there it is routed to the gas pedal. There is a switch by the gas pedal, and when it is depressed all the way down, it activates. The 81 model would not open if the engine was cold, hence why it has a temperature switch. So the whole circuit on that car is gas pedal switch to the temperature sensor, the sensor to the actuator.
So in your case, you may have to wait till the car warms up, or you may have a faulty switch by the gas pedal. Hope that helps!

Do yourself a favor and don't power the flap manually and keep voltage going to the solenoid full time.
I almost melted my scoop by the solenoid getting so hot.
Just a bit of "been there, done that".

Sorry for the delayed response but I was out of the country. Do you know where the temp switch is located on the block ? Thanks for the info you have provided so far. I am not mechanical so I will be relaying this message to my buddy when I have him help me.
