Details Emerge on New Mustang GT Engine
Haven't seen this here, hope its not a repost

About six months ago some sources have began talking about a new 5.0l V8. Now, finally, details on this engine are much more solidified. This new engine originates from the Modular family, but with many unique parts. The engine will include a new aluminum block and new four-valve-per-cylinder head. The engine will also include direct injection, and variable valve timing.
All in all, this new engine promises to make a respectable 400 – 425 horses, and similar torque

Nice. Kind of makes the L76 in a Camaro pointless.
This is what Cadillac needs to do, boost the displacement a little on the North star (I think I've read it can go as big as 4.9L??) and add direct injection.

They're a little late to the 400+ HP party.
Also, if this engine is getting 4 valve heads, VVT, direct injection, and other stuff, how much will it raise the price of the GT (if it does in fact end up in the GT)?
Even more importantly, how will this affect the Camaro's pricing?

What's wrong with the L76? It's proven it's got heaps left in it for cheap & easy power. Not to mention its weight and packaging efficiency.

Well if the base Mustang V8 puts out 425HP Chevy should go with the LS3, Of course that assumes this 5.0L is Fords base V8 which I doubt it is. Isn't Ford coming out with a Boss Mustang still?

Well, the G8 GXP (almost certain) will have the LS3. But anyway, I don't see the base Mustang GT having 400-425HP.

An L76 Camaro could undercut the more expensive GT now!!! Ohhh man that would be killer. Mustang tries to go after the enthuisast market, falls on its face, and Camaro takes up the slack with low cost V8 models!!!
Bring the LS3 and the LSA too...

Here's the thread about Ford's twin-turbo V6:

I assume the V8 comes in above this engine.

The young man who wrote the Auto Savant article does not work in the auto industry and is not an insider, so I am skeptical. Several actual insiders have corrected him on other message boards. I would not be surprised if the 3.5 Ecoboost is the main Mustang performance engine within a few years.

The 5.0 NewMod and 6.2L Boss will be the weapons of choice.
5.0 in the stang
6.2 in the F150

Late? 03/04 Cobra's have been making more than that, and the GT500 is well above that. Not like this is the Mustangs first crack at 400+.
The only way i could see a GT coming with 400-425hp is if they were to redo their lineup. Something along the lines of this....
*Base v6: 260-270hp N/A 3.5L
*HO v6: 340-360hp Eco-Boost 3.5L. This'd probably be the base performance engine and fill in where the old GT left off.
*GT v8: 400-425hp v8
*GT500: 500+hp S/c'd v8
If that were to happen, i think we can expect the price of the GT to jump up a bit.

Then again, maybe the will be going nearly toe to toe with the Mustang in the powerplant area (no new chassis till sometime after 2010 - not that I'd care for it, IMO there is alot left in the basic S-197 Chassis now, I'd rather see evolutionary changes for awhile).
