Thats just what GM wants to see...a more expensive Mustang so they can up the price of the new Camaro accordingly.

Well if the base Mustang V8 puts out 425HP Chevy should go with the LS3, Of course that assumes this 5.0L is Fords base V8 which I doubt it is. Isn't Ford coming out with a Boss Mustang still?

Most rumors say the Boss is not going into the Mustang.

I'm more interested in the rumor twin force 5.0s.

There's good info coming out of svtperformance forums. Reading this thread from there should set the record straight.

From what I understand, the Mustang is not going to get the Boss engines but a variation of the modular range (i.e. the 425 bhp 5.0L DOHC). The Boss engines (6.2L) are heading for the trucks, at least initially, and will start as SOHC followed by DOHC some time in 2010.

The future looks bright for Ford but GM are always a step in front of their enemy when it comes to powertrains.

I would never say never as far as the Boss is concerned given the track record for special edition Mustangs.

At the current $87 per horse. That places the price of the next mustang at $36,833.

Add $500 for the bowtie and the ls3 Camaro starts at $37,333.

There is no way any of that can be true. I hate being right about mustangs all the time.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Boss edition Mustang, not the Boss V8 in a Mustang (kind of confusing) I haven't been keeping up with Mustang news but last I checked, they were getting a Bullit (coming very soon) and then either a Mach1 or Boss edition with 400HP to fill the gap between the GT500 and GT. Now there are rumors of a twinfroce V6 ~340HP so I'm not sure have the future line up has changed.

Why does more power automatically mean more cost? I never understood that concept.

I mean, besides inflation - the Camaros all stayed relatively the same price throughout the years...

And in their own respective times, it costs about the same to make an LS1 as it does to make an LS3....so,

If they have a 100HP Camaro for $8,700 I'll buy one..

I have no idea what your saying. But something at ford has to give. Ford logic also places the challenger price right where it is.

The Challenger is a full size coupe, not a lil pony car.

I think it's stupid to think the Camaro won't get the LS3; when is the last time the f-body didn't get the base Corvette motor?

400+ sounds like to much of a jump. 96-98 220 HP, 99-04 260 HP, 05+ 300 HP. so it seems logical that the next GT deluxe would be around 350 HP.

The jump seems drastic but just look at the Cobra/GT500. It went from 240 to 305/320 to 390 (more like 420hp underrated) to 500+ in a matter of 10 or so yrs. So in 10 model/production years, the Cobra/GT500 more than doubled its hp. And from 01 to 07 gained 200 horses!! Crazy? yes, but my mothers camry having 270hp (what LT1's were making just a little over decade ago) is crazy also.

Way i see, there's no point in offering a 340-350hp v8 when a twin turbo v6 like the new Eco-boost 3.5L would put out similar to better hp, better tq, and with better fuel economy to boot. A 340-350hp v8 almost seem weak given the kind of numbers some of the modern v6's are putting out nowadays. The current GT's output is almost embarrassing. That and i get the feeling Ford will be pushing the Eco-boosted engines heavily over the next couple of years and cutting back on v8 production.

I don't think a 370-400hp GT would be that big a surprise or deal assuming they have something else to fill in between it and the base N/A v6. If that's the case, i think we can expect a price hike with the GT's base price closing in on or exceeding 30k.
