255/40/17 tire on a 17x8.5" wheel compared to 245/50/16 on 16x8" stock wheel

Would the 255/40/17's on a 17x8.5" wheel be similar to the stock size wheel and tire?

I am looking at a set of Y2K Chrome Vette wheels, and Pirelli tires 255/40/17 for $1299. This is the company's package and they had this listed with those tires. Will they be about the same height as stock wheels and tires? Or will the speedometer be off at all?

Second question, is $1299 for Y2K chrome wheels and tires a good price?

Plug your tire sizes into this calculator. You will find that the overall diameter of your new 17" tire is about .5" smaller than the stock 16" tire.

When your speedo shows 60mph you are actually traveling 58.6mph.

As for price, 1300 sounds fair. They are mounted and balanced for that price right?

A 255/40-17 is only 25.0" diameter. That compares to a 25.65" diameter on a 245/50-16. That means your speedo and odometer will be off by about 2.5%. At a true 60mph, your speedo will be indicating 61.5mph. For every 1000 miles driven, you will rack up 1025 miles on the clock.

Thanks guys.

Do you think that size tire/wheel would look ok on my car?

Or should I perhaps go for the set of C5 thick spokes, fully polished with tires??

And yes, the $1300 is mounted balanced, shipped

I think that the 255 will look real nice.

If it came to a choice between Y2K skinny spokes and the 97-99 "wagon wheels", I would take the skinny spokes. The fat spokes of the wagon wheels make the car look "heavy". The skinny spokes make it look "light, nimble, agile" IMO of course.

Question

Where are you finding that with the shipping included? I'd like to know as I am looking for about the same thing.

Clubbin: If this dealer is OE Wheels in Flordia, they have a crappy service. I just got done sending back my 17x9.5 ZR1's with the same tires your intrested in.

First off they sent them to the wrong place NJ & I live in TX then they sent me the wrong offset, and to top that off they did not want to pay for the shipping, after they made the mistake.

I'd look some where else, just a heads up

Exclamation

I've talked to AAArims just today, they do NOT offer free shipping on those wheels off ebay. It's $140 bucks. They only offer free shipping to CamaroZ28.com members if wheels are bought from their website, but then again..you don't have the same "sale" price as on ebay either. 6 in one, half a dozen in the other.
