Post Help me beat this Mustang's audio!

It's actually my girlfriend's 2000 Mustang that has the "Premium Sound Package". I don't know the exact details about it, hopefully someone can give some info.

Basically, I'm getting tired of getting teased about my car's audio. All stock 1996 base system with the only add-on being a Rockford 8210 HU.

I have about $500 on this project...any help would be appreciated. I like the way her car sounds...so anything up to or greater than her's would be OK. I know I need an amp, a sub and for sure some new speakers...I'm just clueless on what to look for or what to get. Nothing over the top or anything that will kill the alternator...just comperable to her car. THANKS!

JBL 80.4 $150
Adire Shiva $125
A/D/S 236im coaxials $170
Use the rest for a box and wiring and you got her beat.

Thanks a lot! Can't wait to see her face after I get all this stuff done.

How would the high notes sound on that system without tweeters? I can't seem to find anywhere that sells the JBL 80.4...

I believe JBL stopped production on the 80.4 as well as the whole BP line(at least thats what I was told by one of my distributers) I do know for a fact they have a new line coming soon. Check out my web site (in sig) maybe I can help you out with your car audio.

Co-axils have tweeters in the center of the mid. They will have no problem playing those high notes! I wouldn't go too overboard with the co-axils. ADS makes great speakers but I just wouldn't spend that much for co-axils. You can almost buy a decent set of components for that. Which would be MUCH better. Try Ebay for the 80.4 The Shiva is an outstanding sub. Get the JBL 300.1 to match!!

Well the A/D/S coaxials are better than a lot of component sets that i have heard. They have an external crossover, tweeter level switch, and are biampable... they are sweet.

JBL 300.1 $145
JBL 80.2 $89
Alpine Type-S 12" Dual 4ohm $105
Alpine Type-R 6 1/2" Component set $155

total $494

Plus another $100-$150 for wiring and a box (I'd go with 1.25 cubic feet, sealed).

It's a little more than you wanted to spend but it will be well worth it.

I would have suggested the shiva but it's a dual 8 ohm driver which means you'd need to find an amp that puts out max or at least decent power at 4ohms.

BTW, all the prices I quoted you are from http://www.ikesound.com

Thank you so much for your suggestion guys! I'm doing my homework on every suggestion and picking up info each time.

I always thought the amp powered everything, but I'm guessing the amp will be powering the sub(s). I'm still not decided on how many subs.

THANKS AGAIN guys!

I had 3 10"W6 JL aduio subs in my TA and hit 146db with half the watts recomended. They take less air space so smaller box and have duel voice coil, 22lbs magnet and they are loud. I still have them in the basement. If you were going to spend 300 buck on subs i will sell them, if you can get an amp that pushes 600+ watts i guarentee that you will have a louder stereo.
