? on computer and speed

really dumb question but just have to know. . . . how exactly does the car know how fast its going? is there anyway to trick the computer to not know how fast its going to remove the limiter without getting the chip?

What car are we talking about? I believe the ECM uses the signal from the VSS so you could disconnect it but you would lose your speedo. I am not sure what happens then but it is possible the car could not go into lockup on the TC.

its a 92 rs 305. . . im not too worried about the whole loosing the speedo thing just because i live in the bay area california and chances are if i need to go the speed limit or somewhere around the speed limit theres bound to be some beater around i can cruise next too or behind.

Yes, but if it is an auto, it may or may not go into lockup and it will suck gas for a bit. I don't know for sure. In any case, you will have a hard time selling the car at that time too because of the odometer being off. Just things to know before you do this. I would say that if you wanted to spend $350 and get a better chip at the same time go to www.fasterproms.com where they will do it for you.

??? Are we talking Rev. limiter or top end speed? Ive had my car to 220kph and my MSD 6AL rev. is set at 6000rpm which I can make her shift at if I hammer her. But then again Ive had her rebuilt and modified....

Some of the cars that did not have Z rated tires supposedly had a speed limiter that cut fuel off when it reached a certain speed. My point is why not do it right and also have them improve the performance of the engine at the same time instead of cut this, splice that and push that?

We took the simple route. I just burned my friend a chip for his 91 Firebird 305 with the limiter set to 255.
TBI cars are easy since the chip isn't mounted into a calpack like the 90-92 V6 and the 56-92 TPI cars.

so is there an inbetween the 350$ for what aklim said or the cheaper route that zepher mentioned without just cutting and crimping?

also around how much did the setup your talking about cost you zepher?

TIA

350 will solve the problem without all the cutting, splicing, etc. It will also optimize your chip so I would consider that a bargain. Further, if you later decide to put more mods the new burn will cost you $150.

Carbs are one solution but may not be "THE" solution. You still have to buy the carb.

well i did the switch thing that the link dabe posted talked about and it works great, and it only took 15-20 min total. also it only ran me 1.40 so its an awesome deal.

i do have to say though if i had an extra 350 i would go with the chip just so i could get it tuned at the same time but for the price of this way of riging it i dont think theres too many negatives too it.
