..we all know how our beloved f-bodies are prone to a rusty rear end..either way we still love em..I'm in the middle of my winter mods and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to clean the rear up and and keep it that way for years to come...thanks;
Mike

Hi Mike, wire brush all the rust and crap off and use VHT rollbar paint. It's satin black and is pretty tuff stuff.

Alot of guys use Por-15 http://www.por-15.com/ .Its really tuff stuff from what I hear and it will last forever. I just bought some semi-gloss black to paint my rear end. I've been told that the amount that comes in the started kit is enough to do the rear end plus more. The starter kit also comes with stuff to clean up rusty areas (like our rear ends) before painting to help it bond better. So that is what I bought, I hope its enough. Hope this helps.

I have not use it yet. I just ordered some yesterday so it hasn't arrived. I have only heard great things about it. From what I understand it spreads just like regular paint. I don't know how hard it dries but everyone says its very durable and will last a long time. Alot of people on LS1.com and the SLP message boards use it. Look on the Por-15 website for the starter kit. It comes with cleaning supplies, brushes, gloves, and a small can of Por-15 in the color you want. This is what I bought and I was told it will be enough for the rear end with some left over (I'm hoping it is but I dunno for sure). But I've heard from more than one person the starter kit is enough for the rear so I just got that. Not bad for $20 shipped. So thats what I did, good luck!

POR is the ish!
Used it on my 442 restoration, and before that my 68 firebird.
Get it, use it! I promise you you'll never use anything else.

I did a quick test to see how it bonds to a rusted area and a area that was prepped.... It actually stuck better and harder to the non-prepped rusted peice. Now I just need to apply to my car once its warm out :D.

When I first got my car I took it to the dealer because of the rear end being totally covered in rust. They told me that it was unpainted because they found that if they painted them they tended to overheat.

another vote for por 15, that stuff works great, it is kinda hard to paint with cause its so think, and the starter kit should do the trick, you'll just have to spread it around. I put it on some old metal then twisted and bent it and the stuff still stuck so it is very pliable. The only problem I've had is when I had some left over in the can it hardened up on me. this happened twice, so I would do the whole rear at once on the same day just in case.
