Hey guys....
I remember hearing something in either 98 or 99 and new traction control system was introduced...or maybe it just became standard and i'm pretty sure it was for the v6. I'm not talking about the 2nd gear start button...rather a TCS button. Is TCS the same as POSI and what was available during 98. I know 4 wheel disc became standard that was once part of Y87.
Help!!
Thanks,
Robert O.

TCS isnt limited slip at all. it (atleast on the v8) when the tires start to spin, cuts power to the motor. it feels like it is bogging down, and on the 98 v6 there is a 2nd gear start button, not tcs, and limited slip is not standard on the v6s. its a Y87 option.

I know the v6 eventually got rid of the 2nd gear start and got an actual tcs system...what year was that?

dont quote me on this but i think 99. because before i bought my car i was looking at a 99 and i THINK the button said TCS, not 2nd(as in a 2nd gear start). but im not positive about that.

What does 2nd gear start actually do, I have a '97 and I have that button. I never used it though

it does exactly what the name says. it locks out 1st gear so when you take off youre in 2nd gear. it doesnt work very well as traction control though. i usually dont use it because youre tires still spin (in the snow) and it just causes you to take off slower. try it out, even if the weather isnt bad. you might like to use it in bad weather.

SGS will not give you better MPG's it is bad to use it all the time cuz the transmition is not shifting the way it should, the manual even says that.
You need to get the Y87 package to get a LSD
traction control came out around 99-00
I think the 99+ still have the SGS but it gets activated by shifting into 2nd manualy.

Chrisz24 is right. On a manual tranny you have to actually put it in 2nd, obviously. Instead of spinning the tires in first on wet or snowy roads it allows you to start out in second gear without slipping the clutch, allowing for less torque and having more control. What fun is that??? My friends 02' has it and I think it was first available on the six in 99. My 99' has the Y87 package with posi, but his doesn't. He's got an LSD.
