Suddenly no 1st or 4th gear..A solinoid??? where to get?

I just had the tranny rebuilt 19k miles ago and today i noticed it was taking off in second and not shifting into 4th..So after searching here im thinking it is a bad A solinoid?

What do you think? How hard is it to replace and how much? would it be better to take to a shop?

its easy to replace and you can get one at the dealer for like 30 dollars . If you can change filter you can change solenoid

Yes it is easy. Unless the clips are in backwards. If they are you have to remove the valve body. I ran across this on my 95z a4.

The 1-2 is the one that feels like its spring loaded , the 2-3 just kinda flops feels loose.

It doesn't sound like an electrical problem. If it was I would think it would latch a code.

You've already been told what to do, from a board sponsor that builds transmissions. I concurr with him. Not to sound like an ***, but if you want to drive around and wait for the solenoid to completely **** out on you at the wrong time, then by all means go ahead. If you want to fix it instead of pay for a rebuild, you will do what you were advised to do. I would change both while in there.

I dont think I ever told you to walk anywhere. I told you to fix it, like the man said. I build transmissions as well, and I said I concurr with him, go fix it, instead of driving around saying "well today it was shifting" and waiting for it to strand you somewhere, because you're too hard headed to change a couple $20 components like you were advised. Most anywhere you would have taken it would have sold you a rebuild, the man gives you the fix, and you question his expertise by re-posting and I agreed with his advice to re-assure you and then you come back saying my post was worthless? Get a clue.
