"Performance mode" on 2010 SS M6

Anybody try this yet? From what I hear, in the manual it states that on the SS manual only (obviously) you can press in the clutch, floor it, and the rpm's will hover at a predetermined rpm range until you dump the clutch providing optimal launch. Must be performed from a stand still (stop).

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

i can confirm this! :)
actually i am not sure about the hovering rpm. but i have used it once or twice to check it out and from what i noticed more than the hovering rpm, is the wheels hop is very limited. which is basically what the competative mode is for.

Good deal. There was more about what the car does at the rear but I couldn't remember. So the rpm's will just continue to climb in that mode?

Should have my car tomorrow or Wednesday!

What do you do if you're on slicks (or a good drag radial) and your optimal launch is vastly different than on street tires?

"What do you do if you're on slicks (or a good drag radial) and your optimal launch is vastly different than on street tires?"

You spend about ten minutes with a broom and dustpan picking up differential pieces. :)

Really don't know I would be afraid to try it with my own car, now maybe a rental car...

i can confirm this, not 1st time the 1st time i was'nt sure so i slowly pushed the throttle down, and the car went to 6000rpm, so i knew it was'nt right so i stopped. today i went out put in competive mode, push clutch in and just smashed the throttle and it went to 4600rpm and stayed their i didn't dump the clutch kinda rolled my foot off and it left kinda slow for 5 feet,so it wouldn't spin hard left a 3 foot mark, then it took off, it is pretty bad ass.

I can confirm turning the traction control completely off provides the best launch. As long as the tires are heated and stick well. The TC really limits the initial launch to control wheel spin. I do run an auto but have tuned the pcm/tcm to their max and there is a noticeable difference between all TC modes. I am assuming :rolleyes:the TC works the same on the M6 as is does on the A6 minus the 4600rpm, I can only get about 3400rpm on the launch.

Great idea! Can you give me some drag racing lessons? I'm a bit of a rookie.

Thanks!

PS....2010_5thgen....roger, didn't know if you could totally disable it or not.

Press an hold the TC button for about 10 seconds to turn it off completely.

actually all you have to do is press the button once and it turns it off. the icon even shows up on the dash showing its off.

correction: you do have to hold the button down for 10 secconds to turn traction totally off.

from what i see you press the button once it takes traction control off but stable track is on,stable track will apply brake pressure to witch ever tire needs it so the car goes straight, it feels pretty crazy, to totally take off all traction you will have to push hold for 10sec, their will be 2 icons in the dash @ this time one will look like a burnout and the other has a tc with circle around it,then you will have no traction control or stable trrck on @ this time and it rips the tires off lol.competive mode you push 2x fast and then you will have the burnout icon, it will not burnout very good that way if @ all.

Interesting. Once the computer tuners get a good handle on these cars, I wonder if they'll be able to disable it completely? When I first started competitively racing my 99 Cobra, I would occasionally forget to turn off the Traction Control (one push of a button on the center console). This would absolutely RUIN a burnout (duh), and mess up my routine and the run. After this happened a couple of times, I made myself a sign that I put in front of the button that said "Turn off TC!" so that it wouldn't happen again, and eventually had the computer changed so that the TC defaulted to off.

But I'm still a rookie and need lessons, please.

I have to assume that any good tuner can make the system default to off. For your daily driver that would not be wise, but if you just race your car I can see justification. These pereli tires are just too darn expensive for me to remember to turn the TC on. The tires on this thing are so good you almost don't need TC unless you are power-stalling or its really cold outside. I'm pushing WELL over 400HP with the mods I have done and I have to stand on the brake to get them to light up, that is with everything turned off.

If you guys couldn't tell or didn't know, Bob is a very seasoned drag racer ;)

I wonder if a tuner can change the RPM that the Performance Mode limits the RPM?

I wonder if this program could be implemented to work with an auto that has a loose converter?

Im not sure why all the sarcasm is about. Since he is a seasoned drag racer I guess he doesnt need to learn to drive. A seasoned drag racer probably doesnt care to much about a launch control anyway. I dont know if you guys are actually getting your panties in a wad or what lol. He got his answer from his question, seeing as a doubt GM is going to allow a setting for slicks on their launch control.

Stock, a 2010 Camaro puts down ~360hp to the wheels. You have a catback and a tune and you think that gets you well over 40 additional horsepower?

wacker

I should have clarified it should be over 400 at the crank, I'm guessing 440-450 with the tune and exhaust. I guess that does not matter since most people:p are concerned with what is at the wheels. The car is going to the dyno in a couple weeks and I will post the results then.

Does this void your warranty?

A co-worker of mine just got his 2SS and read about the launch option in the manual. It says to refer to the warranty paperwork somewhere in there. In the warranty paperwork it said using the launch option voids your warranty. Now, I did not read this myself. This is second hand info and I'm curious what you all have seen on it.
