asa cam swap
asa cam swap
I missed a gear and trashed my engine (99 z28) after about 1200 bucks trying the easy fixesl (new lifters, pushrods) no bent valves motor still clicks real bad. so im gonna overhaul, im going with gm's ls1 asa cam, and ls2 heads (maybe better intake valves) and aftermarket intake with long tube headers (pacesetter). what will it run like with no tune its a lot of work, but im not the richest. so tunning for mods is gonna have to wait a few months can i still drive it. she hasnt ran right since 11/07
Without a tune, it might run a little rough. The ASA cam is a pretty rowdy cam duration-wise. I picked up at least 30rwhp on my builds after getting the car dynotuned... sometimes more. So you can expect much less power than you could have with a tune plus less driveability.
As far as your build goes, just putting LS2 (LS6) heads on the car won't do much more than the stock LS1 heads unless the LS2 heads have been worked. Also your cam selection is an older grind with milder lobes.
You could make much more power with a properly setup build. Do a search here for heads/cam builds or setups.

If you have an automatic it will be bad. The 110LSA of the asa has a very healthy chop to it. Even with an M6 car you will have alot of problems at idle. I would at least send the pcm off to get a mail order tune, won't be perfect but alot better than stock. It also is kinda hard on the engine because with large cams you have low vacume at idle so it will be really rich.
