i took the car around the subdivision today and took some pics. unfortunately i overestimated how much salt was removed from the roads by the rain and some did get on my gfx and wheel wells but i spent a good 45 minutes with QD and damp cloths wiping off all the salt i could find. i'm pretty confident none got to the inner parts of the undercarriage because i reached under there and verified that the dirt i came back with didn't have any salt in it (don't ask how i did that, let's just say it involved one of the 5 senses and it was not smell, sight, sound or touch)
anyway, onto the pics.

ok i'll admit the inner fenderwells on the front wheels are plastic and was probably a waste. but i did have a little bit of salt in the rear fenderwells and on the rocker panels between where the ground effects end and where that dropdown frame rail is. since my 93 tbird SC had bad rust through in this exact area i'm paranoid about rust. i know it would take a lot more than a little bit of road salt sitting on there dry for a couple weeks until i get the car out again but i didn't want to take that chance. if today's rains were enough to clean off the roads i might take the car to a wash to get the whole underbody cleaned but i think i did a pretty good job of removing all the salt. now if i could just get my friend to fix his driveway so i wouldn't have about 2lbs of rocks sitting on my driveway that i dug out of my subuaru wagon's front bumper because i had to basically push myself out of a big dip in his driveway tonight, i'd be good.
i ended up washing the car this afternoon after driving around in the beater for a few hours and since i had it washed this morning to remove some rocks that were wedged in the front air damn (friends driveway i think collapsed last night, they have this dip that is a PITA but last night even creeping through it with the wagon the front nose got stuck in the rocks on the incline and i had to kind of push my way up the incline)
anyway i went and got the T/A washed and now i have a free wash for later because their doors hit my car
after going through the wash there is a pretty steep decline coming out and i was going slow so i didn't bottom out, but also had been creeping really slow through the dryer and came almost to a complete stop before going down the incline. anyway just as i'm startin to go down the incline i feel something tap the side of my car. it was the doors of the wash (they open outward to the sides. i parked the car and checked for damage but luckily didn't find any. i still went in and complained and had the manager double check with me and she was pretty cool about it. turns out her husband has an IROC that he stores in the winters too. she gave me a free wash and said the side doors do have rubber guards so they rarely if ever do any damage. once i got home and was looking over my car i realized something. depending on where the doors were when they tapped the car (whether they were adjacent to the rear wheels or behind them, i'm not sure) they probably hit the tire because the rear tires stick out at the bottom a little wider than the fenders.
