Fords new 427 concept car

Proud pony had a blip about this car, thought it could have its own thread...

Man this thing is completely awesome. Ford has taken full advantage of GM's near abandonment of the high performance market.
Where is GM when ford is belting out countless high performance cars, trucks, and full size cars? The 427 will debut in 2003 at the North American international auto show. Another deadly blow to the General.

I work for F**d, I had to go where the money was and I have been reading a lot and this car impresses me the most. Without a doubt this car needs to be built. It is just flat out awesome in my opinion.

I'm still a GM guy but I'm tired of talk, I want to see the steel and all these great cars that we keep being promised. I WANT ACTION damnit. I'm not saying everything needs to have a v8 and 450+ hp, although it would be nice but I want to see some nicely designed cars and redesign the trucks, they looked good and now they are ugly as sin.

I'm done ranting now.

I hope they never badge another car Camaro, Just to make sure you never get to drive another High Performance GM CAR. Yea you guys are right, Performancew is dead at GM. We only have/ Will have in the next 24 months The...

Corvette, Convert, Targa and Z06

GTO with a LS1 AND a LS6
Caddy CTSv 400 hp
Caddy XLR
Solstice/ Bengal/ sky Trio

We will most lilkly get a Short bed rg. cab. Silverado SS as well as all the other SS trucks. I really dont care much for them.

We have rumors of the next gen GTO with a Chevy twin. We have the SS concept that looks to be the RWD Sedans that will replace the Current front drivers. We are supposed to get a cpe. Version of the CTS.

What does Ford HAVE NOW!!!

Mustang, Thunder turd and the Slower than our 96 Impala Mercury. Ford My friends is just as much Talk as GM or more. They will have in 24 months the above with the 100k plus GT. Wow!!! Now thats a performance selection.

Dude, I'm not flamin' you on this or anything... I agree that GM does have some great performance cars right now. But from that list you just posted, how many have a base unit below $20k, and a performance unit below $30k?
You rolled off a nice list of high-$ cars there friend!

Mustang (GT I assume), Marauder, and T-bird (N/A I assume) are great cars for $35 or less (save T-bird w/options).
If we're dropping the wallet alltogether, you gotta throw in the SVT Focus, Cobra, and Lightning too, all of which are pretty much dominating in their performance classes for still less-than-Vette prices. And with the supercharged Marauder, supercharged T-bird, Lightning Bolt, and others coming, you gotta admit, Ford has got a lot of choices for the average performance car buyer right now - lots of which spin the REAR wheels too!

It's just an availability/price issue, not a have-it-or-not issue IMO.
Right now, Ford has both - variety and price range.
Damn, for YEARS it has been the other way around

I really could care less about trucks, Thats just me. 30 to 35K is what a performance car with RWD V8 and 350 plus Hp Should cost. How much does a fully done-up, Impala, Inmtrepic Camry cost??? Performance cars cost more right? Look at a 20 grand camaro in 96 then look at a 96 Impala or Camry. The difference is about the same. If Performance is your Hobby then the extra 5-10K is what you will have to pay to play. Sacrafice or drive a Honda. Thats what I think. I love cars. I'll sacrafice 200 dollar dinners and baseball games to drice a Corvette or SS Camaro. Pick your plesure and pay for it. None of the cars I have listed are out of the price range of some omne who makes 30 grand or more a year. Some people have to sacrafice more for what they want. I plan on Buying a full size 3 flat with a Basement Apt. I am Going to live in the small Basement apt. And rent the other full size 3 bedroom apartments. Thats a sacrafice I am willing to make to have another 500 a month in my pocket or car. So my question to all of you is. HOW BAD DO YOU WANT A PERFORMANCE CAR?

Evil Turbo SS, just as some of the guys here aren't taking GM performance seriously, you aren't looking at Ford performance seriously either. I get that impression because you said "What does Ford HAVE NOW!!!?"

*Cougar coming back as mustang twin
*400hp Cobra
*500hp Lightning
*500hp GT/40
*400hp+ BOSS mustang for 2004
*390hp S/c Thunderbird
*possible 400hp Lincoln Ls to combat the Cadillac CTSv
*Mustang GT with no less then 300hp
*302hp Maruader with a S/c version on the way
*Svt focus which might get the Euro Turbo Focus RS treatment and possible AWD

Then you go outside of Ford/Lincoln/Mercury and there's Jaguars and Aston Martins for the guys with extra $$$$ to throw around. They may not be American but they are Ford owned and some would certainly fall in class with some of Cadillacs future offerings.

My point? Ford isn't lacking in performance as you'd think. Certain Mercury and Lincoln models will soon get the SVT treatment as well.

Did I say performance was Dead at GM, NO. All I said was all I keep hearing from GM this is coming or that and keep the faith. With ford I see concepts, I see rwd v8's on the road and cars getting more power and redone. When is GM going to really step up?

I could careless if there is another Camaro, yes it pissed me off but I understand why it was done. It was excellent that they moved fast to get the GTO out but where is the SSR and the SS truck that has been talked about for years.

I also feel Ford stepping up to the plate might give us a better GM.

You call me a sell because I needed a job to make money, to live??? I actually support who I work for, it doesn't me I love them or have jumped ship. Hell I don't even own a ford, gm or Chrysler now you going to call me a sellout because I own foreign car, go ahead.

8. New RWD based Northstar
9. SC RWD Northstar

It kinda looks like a CTS mated with a new Malibu to me... heh.

Im excited about GM performace comming up. No one mentioned the ION coupe or the whole GXP lineup. What about all the rumors swirling about the SS UTE being an Elky?

GM doesnt have to bring the regular cab Silverado SS to market, but I dont see how they can just ignore a 500 hp Lightning. Im serious that I'll sell my body parts to buy a reg cab Silverado SS.

Guion seems pretty happy about the Chicago show, too ... hmmm maybe we'll have something to add to our list shortly?

Damn you 95ZVert and Chuck! !! I was going to say the exact same thing...that 427 looks VERY much like a CTS. First thing I thought when I picked up a copy of the new Autoweek.

Why should they cost more? I'm giving up navigation systems, leather interiors, extra doors, and dozens of extra 'features' in a purpose built sports car. Camrys and Accords, etc. all have 4w disc brakes and fully independant suspensions and multicam engines already.

I can get a well equipped Mustang GT for 24K, and a Mach1 for ~28K. A base 350Z starts at ~~27K with IRS and a DOHC V6 that I'm sure costs more to produce than a pushrod V8. A base Z28 (2002) cost ~24K. I can also buy a V8 RWD pickup truck for 19K.

I read a few threads on the 2005 mustang and 2004 GTO.

The mustang IMO looks way better then the GTO, but it's a concept. A lot of changes most likely will happen, but for right now the GTO doesn't compare to the GT in looks.

Well, with there only being two truly American car companies, Ford and GM, I don't see the big deal of buying from Ford. They are still offering a V8 RWD muscle/performance car. For a little over $32,000 you can have a highly potent 390 hp car. That's more than I can say for GM.

Plus, I'd rather have the 5000 lb Ford Lightning than the 3500 lbs of ugliness called the Chevy SSR.
