Transmission Slipping? Went from shifting perfect to stalling?

The car was shifting perfect and all of a sudden I take off from a stop sign and it acts like it would if I were in a manual riding the clutch. When I get up to speed around 55 the rpms do not drop, there is now no difference between Overdrive and drive, the rpms just stay up while I have the gas pedal in but when I let off they drop to idle.

check fluid, if its not low or burnt your transmission may be KIA. IF it is low or burn, replace fluid/ filter first. If it still slipps, time for a rebuild.

I forgot to mention that the fluid level is always perfect and it was rebuilt maybe 30,000 miles ago according to the person I bought it from. I did notice that they left the cover off of the torque converter and flywheel, and I was wondering, is the torque converter supposed to spin while sitting in park?

We have a forum for "Drivetrain" questions. There are some auto tranny pro's there, who can help you.

I'll move the post there for you.

Sounds like some serious slipping issues. What condition is the fluid in? Is it still red/pink? Does it have a burnt smell?

Yes, the converter will always turn, when the engine is running.

This is an educated guess but maybe in the rebuild they put in a higher stall converter then stock and your fluid is getting too hot?

I have a similar slip due to a high stall converter but only when I'm stopped and man does it grab hard once it engages lol.

Good luck

You said you took it back out and it did fine again? I would say your going into limp mode . I would suggest scanning for codes first

The fluid has a small amount of ****? You cant see it immediately but once you let it soak into a paper towel you can see a smutty residue separate from it. The fluid is now a dark crimson color and I can't tell if it has a burnt smell. It has slipped and went back to normal twice now. Strangely it happened once I got to the very same stop sign??

Sorry ittook me so long to reply; I scanned it and it finally threw a code 81 "QDM or Second shift solenoid fault." Is the QDM or Second shift solenoid something that can be changed without opening the transmission?
