the reason im writing this post is to potentially save someone the headache i just had installing the ignition kit from summit i just bought (part # SUM-CSUM2752). It comes with a HEI distributor, the ignition box and wiring harness.

The main problem was that in the instructions it didnt say you need to remove the 4 pin module and use the magnetic pickup wires. it even has a diagram (fig 15) showing you can use the white trigger wire with the 4 pin module in place, however you can not, in my case the engine ran but would not idle. So, if any of you are looking at this kit and plan to buy the hei version - be sure you remove the module inside the distributor and use the purple and green magnetic pickup wires.

in my opinion summit needs to fix their instructions to be more specific for the HEI dist shipped with the kit, on the other hand it was a good price and works well.

 

I too have one of these on my 88 GMC pickup and I found the instructions to be confusing compared to the MSD ignitions I've used in the past.
