Procharger guys..Ever try using one of these Air filters right on the Blower inlet?

Instead of using the orange dryer hose or other tubes, has anyone tried to hook one of these up directly to there procharger (P1sc or D1sc)?

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=RU-4410

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=RC-4230

Looks like it may fit.

Anyone know of any drawbacks? It would suck in some hotter air but if you run an IC and or Alcohol/Water Injections, would that even matter?

I remember someone here (years back) had a filter directly on thier blower and even though it was picking up hot air he picked up 4 pounds of boost and a lot more power but that was a very FAST car and I believe was a vortec set up. If I remember right he first used a custom intake it worked Ok but when he put the filter straight on the blower picked up a lot more power and boost.

Edit...I am not looking to do this for more power just and more simple filter system.

Not 100% sure

I haven't tried this but I'm also toying with the idea. I've been told that a lot of the Vette guys are doing this with their Procharger setups. They're removing all the tubing (including intercoolers) and running it straight into the intake. Then they add a water/alky setup to cool it all.

I think I'm going to try this on my car in the next week or two. So I'll let you know if I do, and how it goes.

Also, I'm told that the Vette guys are picking up about 2-5 pounds of boost (depending on a the setup). One guy said he went from seeing 10-11#'s to 15#'s by doing this (with a 12# pulley).

Those filters wont work because the inside inlet diameter is 3.5. the inlet on a p1sc is almost 4". Those filters also look very small. Doesnt seem like they would flow very well. If you do a custom intake or even buy the ati hat, you wont lose much. There has been testing that shows the restriction is the air filter not the intake plumbing.

I doubt it would clear the room between the blower and the first primary header even if you get one that is the correct inlet size for the blower. I tried some ricer brand one that was super thin, and it still wouldn't fit.

FWIW, I dyno'd my car with no filter the first time around and got 15#'s of boost (it only was getting 9#'s of boost with the stock plastic inlet and the filter that came from ATI).

A year later I changed to a custom larger inlet tube (a fabbed up metal one from another board member on this site), and a much larger air filter on the end of it, and had it re-dyno tuned, and saw 15#'s of boost with the new setup (same RPM's were seen on the dyno as well).

I'd say if you can achieve results similar as "no filter" while still actually having a filter on it, you've achieved about the best you could ask for.

I think you would find it easier to do a setup similar to mine personally.

Those little filters probably won't flow over 300 cfm. OK for cruising only

couple posts down he has a picture of his setup.

I am using the "cobra head" intake, but on a turbo, not sure how it affects boost though

Yep, that is pretty much my setup (although neither pic is actually from my car). Its hard to take good pics when the space is so limited in that area under the hood.

isn't your inlet on the engine side?
if so that intake would not work without fabbing.

For some of us, ATI ships the system set up to mount the K&N cone kilter directly to the head unit:

I've since fabbed tube to pull in air from just infront of the front driver's side tire. I'm not intercooled or injected so I felt that the hot underhood temps were worse than any losses due to piping (4" piping).
