Rears needing a rebuilt, may as well up the gears to 3:73's, what is the quietest brand? I hear good comments on Motive Gear

Quietest IMHO are the AAM made gears like genuine GM or Yukon gears from Randy's ring and pinion. These gears are two cut gears which use very tight .003-.006 backlash to ensure they remain quiet. These are slightly more weak than the Motive's but they are quieter.

The Motives are 5 cut gears that require more backlash around .010" or so, but they are slightly stronger.

I have used both and prefer the Yukon gears or GM gears if you want quiet.

Regardless of what you get the key to quiet gears is proper setup, unfortunately the GM can be a bit tricky compared to other similar rear ends and I have never understood why. The noisiest gears are the 4.10's with the 10 bolt although I have never tried 3.73's.

That's what I run, and there's barely any noise. (Decel)

Can't speak for anything later than '95, lol, but it worked just fine on my '95 for 4.10's. Anyways, it's real close if not dead-on.
