Whats the best headgasket for a boosted car?

Hey guys,

I gotta change my headgaskets in my car. I'm running 16psi of boost on low compression 383 with a d1sc/fmic. Want to see what would be my best bet on a new set of gaskets. The fuse blew for my fans and I didnt realize how hot it was and she poped a head gasket.. Sucks....

Also what other fan set-ups work for our cars with superchargers on the? Their is absolutely no room with the stocker in their....

thanks
john

I am going to be doing my build up for my boosted 383 soon to, so I would also like to know the best gasket to use, or is it worth having them o ringed..

Personally, I follow the logic that the head gasket is there to act as a safefy valve for much more expensive parts.

Stick with the FelPro's...

I've had no problems using Fel-pro's.

I believe I am also using the Felpro's on my car which is quite similar to yours, and haven't had a single problem yet.

Ok Guys thanks for thanks for the reply's! I was running the Felpro's also. Man all this work to change a head gasket just because that stupid fan fuse blew and I didnt see it in time. Oh well **** happens. Again thanks for all your input!

I sprayed mine with some Hylomar to make sure they wouldn't leak.

Cometics and similar MLS gaskets leak/seep ~1/3 of the time they are installed. They are about 2X as expensive as the #1074. If you blow a #1074 there is something seriously wrong with your setup which is causing significant detonation.

I run FelPro 1074. I torque them 3 rounds when installing. Let them set/ relax Ovr_night, then re_check . I too have ditched the stock fans. Went with two flex-lite low profile 12". Had to custom mount fans to the be_cool rad. Also moved the rad forward by mod of the front mtr_comp rad steel (available room is quite nice and very maintenance friendly). With LT1 _edit, I run my fans constant. B. (97ss 383-D1)

wow, I didnt know that. I dont need no head aches so I will go with the #1074.

I will look into that fan set-up. thanks for your input. its the second time I blew a fan fuse and I dont want it to happen again so I definately want to change the set-up. My fans are almost canstantly on so thats why the fuse takes a dump on me every once in a while...

Felpro 1074 + 22psi Boost. I Would Rather Replace The Gasket Than A Piston!

I have replaced 3 pistons, no 1074 ;)
