jmangler 11-18-2007, 04:34 PM Hey guys,
I gotta change my headgaskets in my car. I'm running 16psi of boost on low compression 383 with a d1sc/fmic. Want to see what would be my best bet on a new set of gaskets. The fuse blew for my fans and I didnt realize how hot it was and she poped a head gasket.. Sucks....
Also what other fan set-ups work for our cars with superchargers on the? Their is absolutely no room with the stocker in their....
thanks
john
crazycat 11-18-2007, 06:04 PM I am going to be doing my build up for my boosted 383 soon to, so I would also like to know the best gasket to use, or is it worth having them o ringed..
97ChameleonTA 11-18-2007, 07:31 PM Personally, I follow the logic that the head gasket is there to act as a safefy valve for much more expensive parts.
Stick with the FelPro's...
leadfoot94 11-18-2007, 07:32 PM I've had no problems using Fel-pro's.
JustNO 11-18-2007, 08:21 PM Fel-Pro 1074
SiDeWaYZz28 11-18-2007, 11:19 PM ive herd that COMETICS are good
Lisa33 11-19-2007, 01:59 AM have always used felpro1074, havent had any problem yet.
CALL911 11-19-2007, 02:45 AM I believe I am also using the Felpro's on my car which is quite similar to yours, and haven't had a single problem yet.

jmangler 11-19-2007, 05:49 AM Ok Guys thanks for thanks for the reply's! I was running the Felpro's also. Man all this work to change a head gasket just because that stupid fan fuse blew and I didnt see it in time. Oh well **** happens. Again thanks for all your input!
rskrause 11-19-2007, 04:11 PM FP 1074 FTW!

Sparkz28ss 11-19-2007, 05:28 PM 1074s .........hard to beat
Kevin Blown 95 TA 11-19-2007, 07:08 PM I'm another guy using Cometics.
jmangler 11-19-2007, 07:27 PM I might try those cometics I have heard good stuff on them...

I sprayed mine with some Hylomar to make sure they wouldn't leak.
jmangler 11-19-2007, 08:26 PM thanks for the tip
rskrause 11-19-2007, 09:24 PM Cometics and similar MLS gaskets leak/seep ~1/3 of the time they are installed. They are about 2X as expensive as the #1074. If you blow a #1074 there is something seriously wrong with your setup which is causing significant detonation.

mzgp5x 11-20-2007, 11:35 AM I run FelPro 1074. I torque them 3 rounds when installing. Let them set/ relax Ovr_night, then re_check . I too have ditched the stock fans. Went with two flex-lite low profile 12". Had to custom mount fans to the be_cool rad. Also moved the rad forward by mod of the front mtr_comp rad steel (available room is quite nice and very maintenance friendly). With LT1 _edit, I run my fans constant. B. (97ss 383-D1)

wow, I didnt know that. I dont need no head aches so I will go with the #1074.
I will look into that fan set-up. thanks for your input. its the second time I blew a fan fuse and I dont want it to happen again so I definately want to change the set-up. My fans are almost canstantly on so thats why the fuse takes a dump on me every once in a while...
97WS6Pilot 11-20-2007, 02:17 PM Felpro 1074's here.:)
BIGCATPOWER 11-23-2007, 12:32 PM Felpro 1074 + 22psi Boost. I Would Rather Replace The Gasket Than A Piston!
Lisa33 11-23-2007, 06:29 PM I have replaced 3 pistons, no 1074 ;)
SiDeWaYZz28 11-23-2007, 11:56 PM can you reuse cometics?
97s10ondubs 11-24-2007, 07:33 AM can you reuse cometics?
