Cam/ Heads & Cam install $'s - what are some average prices ?
I've heard around 1K for a cam install, and around 3K for heads & cam.
Does that sound about right ?
Anybody have any real world HP gains they can share w/ one orr the other ?
Thanks !!

Cam ... Cam and parts anywhere from $500 (Hot Cam Kit, gaskets and no pushrods) to $700 (anything else with springs and hardened pushrods). Install anywhere from $350 to $500 ... so about $1000 is right for a cam as an average.
Heads - Heads and parts anywhere from $1600 to $3000, dependimng upon who builds them and what they put into them. In addition there may be core charges ranging from $600 to $1700, again depending upon supplier. Install somewhere between $300 and $600. If you do a cam and heads at the same time, you should get a price break on the labor since some of the work is redundent.
For a total package, including installation, $3000 is probably as about as cheap as you can get it. And upwards of $5000 wouldn't be out of the question. Of course if you can do some of the installation yourself you can save some $$ there.
Last, none of the cost includes tuning, so you will be looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 to $1000 there, depending upon how you go.
Now this is for all new stuff, the other way is to be opportunistic and look for deals. Such as my way.
Used Hot Cam - $180
GMPP CNC LS6 Heads - $1770
Labor - Car is in dealer for warrenty work for ring replacment, Cam install about $275 for labor and gaskets, no charge on the heads since they are off anyway.
Tuning - $500 for a Speartech PCM, $125 used MAFT, $225 used Hypertech ... now I already had and was using this configuration on my stock set up, so the only new expense is going to be $75, for an hour of dyno time to tweek the the AF/R in with the MAFT.
Good Luck
