Odd problem with 17x9.5 56mm ZR1's

Working with a guy on another forum, and he insists that the 17x9.5" 56mm ZR1 wheels he bought will not fit in the front without spacers. Claims the inside edge of the rim is up against the steering kncukle (best as I can tell..... he said its hitting the "strut"???).

Anyone ever heard of a problem with those wheels? Mine have at least 1/8" clearance from the rim to the steering knuckle. They've been on the car for 6 years, and I've seen a lot of others running the same wheels with no problems.

I told him to measure the actual backspace on the wheel, and to verify that the wheel is actually a 9.5" wheel (since he initially indicated they were 9.0" wide????). That way he can identify whether the wheel is really a 56mm offset.

same thing I was thinking......

Sounds like he does not have the right wheels. Are they the knock off ones? I have been seeing alot of chinese knock offs of those lately

I suspect he is a bit confused on what wheels he really has. I explained to him how to measure the backspace, and I'm waiting to see if he really has 17x9.5" 56mm wheels.

I was just asking on the chance that someone else might have come across a similar problem. Like I said, I haven't heard of anyone having problems with those wheels as long as I've been following the subject. There is no logical way to explain how wheels that are actually that size will not fit.

Would swapping in LS1 steering knuckles have any effect - I doubt it? Or maybe he managed to bend the steering knuckle..... or maybe he's trying to put 17x11's in the front....

Exact offset on mine and clear no problem. In fact my 17 x 11 rears with a 50 mm offset required "0" mods to fit.

I had that problem on my car, but mine isn't a 4th gen.
I have 2" bolt on Spacers and 2 sets of 9.5" ZR1's, one set sits inwards about 1/8", so I had to clearance my tie rods so the wheel wouldn't rub, the other set sits fine with plenty of space.

I bought 17 x 9.5 / 56mm from OE Wheels and had no problem..... Maybe he has a defective set.. Not the right spacing?????

Has the car been in an accident?????
