what kind of tires? I live in boston.. Corvette rims...

I am thinking of wrapping my c5 rims in:

FRONT: 255/45 17

REAR: 285/40 18

I live in boston and I worry mostly about rain. I need the best traction possible in the rain and I don't trust the comments the manufacturers make when advertising the tires. I need the truth... So good in the rain and for performance. forget the run flats... I have them on there now adn it is so stiff it is ridiculous... Thanks guys. kurt

Anyone who is OLDER THEN 16 and has good experience with what tires are a good deal right now and have good traction etc refer to original post before ranting... Anyone?

it's weird I swear when I bought my first third gen and was learning about that stuff and was a real camaro newb.. people posted more frequently, there were more knowledgable and mature people and things were a lot easier...

my bad injuneer. I think when I first started posting on this forum there were a lot less "sub" forums and no one ever moved anything I posted....They are hidden under the care and maintenance...

I use bf goodrich geforce KD's, and they work fine in the rain. They make KDW which is more intended for the rain though.

I like the Falken RT-615 better than I liked the BFG KD. I just don't know if they'll come in your sizes. They do fine in the rain, but I wouldn't say they're the best. You'd probably be better off with something like the BFG KDW, Nitto 555, FS Wide Oval, GY GSD3, etc for wet road traction. A dry/wet performance tire or a true all season is what you should look for.

I've had good luck with the feedbacks on tirerack, but I read the ones from people with RWD and skip the stuff from the fwd or awd cars.

A 285/40-18 tire is 27" diameter, larger than the stock tire diameter. A 285/35-18 would be a better choice. If your car left the factory with the Z-rated tires, they were 245/50-16 with a 25.65" diameter.

The user feedback rating on Tire Rack are fairly accurate, from my experience. I run the BFG KDW's in the front. If I was buying today, I'd consider the GY GS-D3.

not bad not bad.

My wheels are corvette c5 rims and yes the factory puts out 275 width. I saw somone running the 285 and figured I should too to get that extra traction.. I live in boston and I can't go to a 35 height. that is too thin for the roads here which are GARBAGE to say the LEAST. The roads here are absolute trash and my camaro having the all solid rear suspension has it rough enough. I am eliminating the run flat rigidity... Sounds like some sound advice. i'll go check those out.

I have 295/35/18 on the same wheels but i havent had a chance to drive it in the rain yet. Tires are firestone firehawk wide ovals. They do pretty good in dry weather. The car is currently in the shop but ill post again when I get it back.

touching both. I live in dedham and happen to live right next to west rox. about a quater mile down the street from the v.a. hostpital at the intersection of the vfw parkway and rt. 1 To answer the question. Suburb, very close to boston line.
