Found 2 Ohm Impedence Speakers - Got a question...

I'm going to upgrade my sound system in the future, however currently I have two speakers out and I wanted to know what would happen if I replaced those speakers with Infinity's 6 3/4" 2 Ohm speakers with my Monsoon sterio, then upgraded the sterio? Would I run the risk of hurting the sterio or speakers since they're only 2 Ohms or is the less resistance the better?

which speakers are out? the ones in the front door are essentialy 2 speakers, the 6 1/2 woofer portion is a 2 ohm, but the tweeter built over the woofer is a 4 ohm, so the front door speakers have to be replaced with stock since they use 2 different powers and 2 different channels. The speakers behind the seats are also 2 hom, but they are the 'subs' of sort so if you used just a generic 6 1/2 you would most likely lose some bass. This is the impedement on the monsoon system in a camaro:

Front Woofers: 2 ohm
Front Tweeters: 4 ohm
Sail Panel 'sub' woofers: 2 ohm
Rear Mids 4 1/2": 4 ohm.

Basically what you're saying is, unless I have every intent on replacing the sterio at the time, it would be best to replace everything with stock speakers?

may fry internals of an aftermarket HU -- they're designed to handle 4 ohm impedances...

IMO, just purchase 4 ohm speakers -- with any decent quality, the increased speaker sensitivity will make up for any impedance difference

I've installed the 2ohm Kappas in MANY applications and I've never had any trouble. They sound great coming off of deck power.

I'd suggest getting rid of the monsoon trash and running a 4 channel with a set of all new 4ohm infinitys. Thats what I run and I think it sounds great

So I can run the 2ohm Kappa's without any trouble with the monsoon? but then again if I change headunits I could mess things up huh? Best just got for some 4 ohms...

of course there would be no trouble -- and definitely go 4 ohms unless you just want to run off of the Monsoon amp

not "could" mess things up -- look at it as it "will", and avoid it

many find running those speakers creates a very bright sound -- this is because Infinity speakers are brighter in general, and on top of that -- you would be running tweeters of 2 ohm impedances Vs. the stock 4 ohm ones giving them a little more as well.

get that monsoon out of there. fact of the matter is that these cars are in the ballpark of 10 years old. factory amps are not known for their reliability.

I've got kappa perfect 4ohms all around with a 4 channel which is nice and hidden where the bose BS should be. sounds great.
