Ricer question

Well, just had a cam installed a few days ago along with an LS6 intake and exhaust cutout (Hooker LTs).

Question is, rather than replace the starter with a factory one, is there a high torque model for LS1s? Know my engine doesn't need it.... and here come's the "ricer".... I LOVE THE SOUND OF HIGH TORQUE STARTERS. The whinnnnneeeee and then explosion of a camming open header car just gets me all warm and fuzzy inside.

So, anything out there? Did a quick search on Summit and Speed Inc with no luck

I'd buy a factory replacement. But, that's just me.

Are you running "12:1 Compression Or More" with your LS1?

Understood. That still doesn't make it right. But hey, if he wants to put a high torque starter on the edge of his aluminum block, that's his choice.

Stock starter motors have on occasion broken the mounting material at the base of the block. Rare as it may be, it has happened. So, why not throw some real starting torque at it and see what that sucker will hold???

I run a little over 11:1 on my 383. The aluminum mount for the starter is actually not as prone to failure as you might think. I've seen some hydro-locked LSxs snap starter teeth/snouts off before damaging the block. Besides, the starter will only apply as much torque as needed to spin the rotating assembly... I might get one later down the road, but was just trying to help the OP.
