Need suggestions for transmision rebuild
Need suggestions for transmision rebuild
Well my 95z28's tranny just went out on me yesterday. i have a beater to get around in so im not in an extreme rush, i would like it to get back on the road soon however.
Im feeling pretty certain on goin with the vigalante for the converter but dont need anytheing to crazy, just a solid upgrade from stock. so my questions are.
1. what stall should i go with (want to maintain good streetability)?
2. Should i get a shift kit (perhaps a transgo stage 1 at most)?
3. Should i go lockup or non lockup (what are the main differences)?
4. How much should i expect to spend (hoping to keep it around 2k)?
5. What other things should i consider doing to the trans. during rebuild?
All coments are much appriciated would like to get started with this soon. Any other info pertaining to this rebuild would be great.
A little more info on my car, its a 95z28 a4 with 147,000 miles on it. Engine runs strong should be great once trannys done. I have just about every bolt on you could get and some free mods. the cars my daily driver so i want it to be mild but better than stock. Thanks for the help.

In regards to cost http://www.cahallperformancetransmissions.com/ rebuilds tranny's for much less than $2000 so I would probably give them a ring, they could probably give you some advice on the other questions as well.
Feel free to check out our web site for specifics. www.cahallperformancetransmissions.com We're the top rated transmission supplier on here, as well as being a supporting vendor. We urge you to do a search for "CPT" or "Cahall Performance Transmissions". You'll find a long list of very satisfied customers.
1. A good 2200-2400 stall is a nice street converter. Click on ProTorques link on our web page for other info.
2.We'll set the trans up to shift to your taste. We don't use a "prepackaged" shift kit. Any professional transmission builder shouldn't have to. I can tell you we don't get any shift complaints. We don't just set them up to shift "HARD", we set them up to add durability.
3.Can't do a non lock-up in a 4L60E.
4.$700 + hard parts (if any) for a Stock build, $800 + for a Performance build, $100 + for a Race build, or $1400 + for a Pro Race build. Many 4L60E's we do don't require "hard parts". They are parts not normally replaced in a rebuild...IE pump, planetary, drum, etc. If we have to charge extra, we either supply digital pictures, or send the parts back to the customer. Feel free to PM any of our past customers if your nervous about this. They'll all let you know what their HP came to.
These prices don't include the converter.
Give me a call, and we'll discuss specifics.
Thank You,
Frank
