Projectz28 04-19-2007, 08:01 PM So I get my car insurance bill in the mail today. I opened up the Geico package expecting to see the same price I paid last time. To my suprise its like $20 higher. I looked at the bill and I see a "PLIGA surcharge" for $17. So I called Geico and they told me that the surcharge is a fee that the insurance company has to pay to the state of NJ. They have to pay this fee to the state for the right to do buisness here. The surcharge is Geico now billing me for their cost of doing business and its a "recoupment fee". I asked if there was anything they could do because I dont feel the fee should be my responsibility. They said sorry sir you have to pay it...
I'm starting to get tired of the state of NJ... maybe its time we found a governor who will crack down on this crap instead of speeding down the TPK at 100 mph with no seat belt on to get to the Imus meeting:rolleyes: I ask this... does he get a surcharge on his insurance for breaking the law? nope, I get a surcharge for someone else to have the right to do buisness here...
I'm no buisness major but something dosent seem right here...
soontobeGN 04-19-2007, 08:08 PM fair? no
legal? yes
I hate this BS too, almost as bad as being able to be ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt. I agree, new jersey blows.
Bow94z 04-19-2007, 08:15 PM lol i wouldnt say thats fair, but somone has to pay for his Tahoe that got messed up.. What does PLIGA stand for?
PA>NJ Auto insurance:eek:

I agree, now my question is where is Corzine's seatbelt ticket?
Projectz28 04-19-2007, 09:07 PM What does PLIGA stand for?
I have no idea but I just put out 17 bucks for it....
Schweet97Z 04-19-2007, 10:34 PM  :D
PSU 98 04-19-2007, 11:10 PM If enough people voice their displeasure, Geico will rethink their strategy. Not too long ago, Verizon was dumb enough to send out a letter effectively telling its subscribers that even though their operating costs were going down, they were adding a monthly fee to offset the customer's savings. Well, another letter came out a few days later to correct that decision
Have you looked into other insurers?
Projectz28 04-20-2007, 04:39 AM Not yet... car insurance in this state is a joke. All I do is fork out big money and get nothing in return but a piece of paper to tell me I am legal. I seem to swap insurance companies every 2-3 years because of crap like this. My camaro does not even have insurance. I guess its time to start shopping again. (sigh...)
what are you guys paying? Liz and I have to fork out 986 every 6 months for full coverage on an 05 Yukon and her 01 Corola....

Schweet97Z 04-20-2007, 08:47 AM i pay around 1400 a year for both of my cars, im 20 years old

you suck! :p
5SPDCHK 04-20-2007, 10:05 AM You've just given me another reason why I should never move to NJ. Rick and I both work in NJ - he's up in Edison now and I'm in Princeton. We have talked about moving to the Old Bridge area but can't get past the insane taxes and insurance is the state.
;)
Projectz28 04-20-2007, 11:12 AM Edison? Where at? When did he leave Mongos's?
I almost stopped in to see him a few weeks ago, I just happened to be in the neighborhood. I didnt see his car so I didnt stop. Good thing I didnt huh? lol
Taxes suck in NJ, especially up north. The further up you go the worse it gets. I paid $4400 last year in property taxes for a 3 bedroom 1 bath ranch on a slab... And I am in one of the most reasonable towns around. My parents are in Cinnaminson... try $9000 and they have yet to be re-assesed. They went thru my town last year and Cinnaminson is this year. She is planning to put the for sale sign up if it goes any higher. Granted her house is a 4 bed 2.5 bath but its crazy here.
Oldbridge? you almost need a second job to afford that one.... :(
Projectz28 04-20-2007, 11:14 AM BTW, Harold you do suck.... I paid $4800 for my camaro the first year I got it. I was 21ish and had 2 pts...
Bow94z 04-20-2007, 11:22 AM on my Z and a 90 subaru i pay bout $2200/yr for liabilty, I think it's kinda high but I've always had points on my license, actaully just fought a 5pt ticket yesterday and got the whole ticket dropped..wheww:D
NJ Rates are insane!
PSU 98 04-20-2007, 11:40 AM I pay around $1500/year for coverage on my Z, my 'Vette, and my DD Grand Am.
5SPDCHK 04-20-2007, 11:50 AM Edison? Where at? When did he leave Mongos's?

He left Mongo's in late October because he's "not a people person." I guess it's a prereq for working on cars - being a "people person." You have to get along with those cars, eh?!
He landed a job at PSE&G in Edison in December working on the hydraulic something-er-others on the trucks. He LOVES it. He's been wanting to get in there for a long time and the opportunity arose at EXACTLY the right time for him.
I can top your taxes Brian. We live in Bristol Twp - $hitty neighborhood. $hitty school district and people steal our recycle bin over and over again - we gave up on that one. 2 bedroom, 1 bath ranch on 1/5th of an acre with a 2 car detached garage = $4300 / year. AND, I owed the twp $243 because of their piece of crap occupancy tax. Unreal... $4543 for absolutely NOTHING but trash removal.
BTW - I paid $1200/year for my mustang for full coverage. :D
;)
Jeff H 04-20-2007, 08:39 PM I'm in Ewing with a 3 bedroom split level with partial basement, 1-1/2 baths and we pay almost $7400 a year in taxes! I'm still waiting for that 20% tax refund the governor promised us! But we do have public water, sewer and a golf course across the street. Don't buy a house in NJ with a septic system unless you know it's been replaced recently. That is a big issue and they are not cheap to have re-done. My 2000 SS runs me around $900 a year full coverage with NJM insurance, but then I'm old so I'm a low risk! :D
Projectz28 04-20-2007, 09:11 PM I'm still waiting for the 20% refund also. I honestly dont believe its going to happen. The gov will probably need that money to cover his medical bills now... you know since he was speeding and not wearing a seat belt. I wonder does the cop who was driving get a surcharge on his insurance for an acident? I wonder if he had to pay the $17 to the state for his insurance also...
Schweet97Z 04-20-2007, 11:02 PM brian put the car in my name, and ill put u on my plan :D the car must be driven by me once a month though. lol but i have full coverage on the camaro, and liability on the jetta. i pay more for liability on the jetta than i do for full coverage on the camaro. i have 4 points on my lisc.:(
EAZE E 96Z 04-21-2007, 12:46 PM hey brian, check out New Jersey Manufacturers insurance. my father and i have been with them for years..i only pay 740 a year for full coverage. also when you get a ticket your insurance does not go up!
here's the # 1-609-883-1300
eric:)
Don't Look Back 04-22-2007, 12:39 PM The surcharge for doing business here is one of the reasons most insurance companies wouldn't come to NJ. Its only been in the past few years that Geico and others have come to this state. I'm finally getting a break since I turn 25 next month, so my payments for my Jeep with no points are going from $2000 a year to $1400. Hopefully the $600 difference will be enough for me to get the Camaro back on the road after 2 years, since I'm planning to get just liability and some sort of low mileage clause. I'm with State Farm, but I may try NJ manufacturers for the Z.
Camarocracy 04-22-2007, 06:21 PM You could always move to Ohio. Living is cheap here. Just don't live in the cities of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, or Youngstown. But the suburbs are pretty nice.
Angelis83LT 04-22-2007, 06:29 PM Wow. after reading the insurance costs, and taxes there I am definitely never moving anywhere near that area.. I will go west.. As it is it is like 3000 in property taxes (not to bad really considering the next lake over is like triple that) And I only have to pay $160 / 6months for liability per vehicle. or something like $100 a month for full coverage per vehicle.
Don't Look Back 04-23-2007, 07:42 PM Just got done researching, looks like it'll be $586 a year for my Z with bare bones, minimum allowed by law insurance with under 3,000 miles a year.
Projectz28 04-23-2007, 08:44 PM Honestly at this point I really could care less about searching for a new insurance company again. I get quotes from all of them like every 2 years and I have switched companies 4 times. The problem here is not the insurance companies... its the state of NJ. And they are making life difficult for us. Its time to get some real government going here and no more BS. The current Corzine hasn't done a thing for me... His priorities are all messed up. There are alot of thing worng in this state and Imus meeting the Rutgers basketball team is not a major deal. There is no reason that he should be racing down the highway at 90 for that crap. Now if he was on his way to the meeting which sets the rules for insurance carriers in NJ I would forgive him. Or maybe he was racing to get to the meeting for airport security regulations... anything else would be important. Our Governor has no buisness getting involved with Imus. And breaking about 10 different laws for it just burns me up. Especially when I have to pay a $17 surcharge for a stupid fund. Insurance and taxes here are just a joke.
McGrevy didnt do anything either. Well unless you count giving his boyfriend a job;) But seriously I honestly cannot think of one thing he did while in office that beniffited me.
Maybe I am just ranting here but it just seems that I am not getting my monies worth here anymore. I really wish I could pick my government plan like I do a phone company... Moving out of NJ just isnt an option.
Jeff H 04-23-2007, 10:53 PM Yup, taxes suk in NJ and car insurance does too. I've been with New Jersey Manufacturers for 23 years and they give you a dividend back pretty much every year so when you look at the cost of full coverage(around $900 on my 2000 SS) you can then subtract the dividend amount which would run around $75-100 and the net cost is really hard to beat. NJM is probably the way to go in NJ.
95Z28LT1-PA 04-25-2007, 10:47 AM I pay about 1300 a year for my Z28 and about 800 for my Daytona Shelby
zmanlt1 05-01-2007, 06:28 PM Yes Nj def sucksw when it comes to taxes and insurance. I bought my Z when I just turned 20 and they wanted 5,000 a year for insurance with no points. I ended up putting that car in my dads name.
97TransAm 05-04-2007, 02:09 PM I thought a governer was just a limiter, not really doing anything worthwhile. Like the one on my Tahoe that keeps me from going over 100mph... not that I would know anything about that. ;)
Inusrance is your issue, mine is friggin school taxes. I think once Jessica is outta here, I'm moving upstate with John Pampered-z. There's a city up there that never needs snow plowing... Centralia.
Bow94z 05-06-2007, 12:27 PM Inusrance is your issue, mine is friggin school taxes.
haha u sound like my parents, now that me and my sister are out of highschool, my parents feel like they are being robbed from school taxes..hah:lol:
njspder 05-06-2007, 03:07 PM the NJFBOa is getting invovled with SEMA-SAN, the legal action arm of SEMA. this is exactly the kind of things that we are planning to work towards resolving because it effects every car owner, including enthusiasts like us.
kep an eye on the NJFBOA forums and expect to see a roll out with in the next few weeks(as soon as we get al of our membership stuff back from SEMA)

Pampered-Z 05-08-2007, 08:57 AM Here I found this rant for ya!
Tax his land,
Tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirts,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his booze,
Tax his beers,
If he cries,
Tax his tears.
Tax his bills,
Tax his gas,
Tax his notes,
Tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.
If he hollers,
Tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.
Tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.
Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"
And when he's gone,
We won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance TAX!!
Jeff H 05-09-2007, 10:00 PM Dam kids!
Dam taxes!
Dam gas prices!
Dam, where's my beer? :D
Antz97ZNJ 05-11-2007, 12:16 PM instead of speeding down the TPK at 100 mph with no seat beltThat was the pkwy btw :) yea jersey blows, been tired of this state for years...divorced w/ children who live here though, so im not going anywhere.
Aeromaks 06-07-2009, 05:56 PM I just looked at my auto insurance that just came today, and to my surprise, about $7 more than usual. I look at it. and voila.. PLIGA recoupment for $6.92. argh!
this is Ameriprise IDS Insurance.

Give me your card number, exp date, and the 3 numbers on the back and I will take care of it for you. You might have to explain to your wife the $304,465,958,302.00 of newly purchased mustang parts.
