Smile LS1 Edit

Okay, so I think I have scored myself a decent laptop for $50.

I'd like to build up a logging/editing rig that I can use to tune my car myself. I don't have any experience tuning, but I understand the basic principles and am ready to learn.

What do I need? I know I need the LS1 Edit software package (which includes the cable), and a wideband O2 sensor (if not two).

Am I going to need/want anything else? Does LS1 Edit include any logging capability? If not, what logging software do you guys recommend? Should I buy LS1 Edit from carputing.com, or is there a better source?

Finally, what is a reasonable price to pay for it all?

There's a programming forum? I didn't even know. If some friendly mod would move this thread there, I'd appreciate it.

+1 for EFI Live. I don't know if you saw my laptop when we had the dyno day. But, it's a hell of a lot more user friendly than LS1 Edit. They've got some pretty sweet stuff and you might be able to find a V1 Flashscan controller leftover with a low entry cost. You're also going to want to invest in a WBO2. I run with an LM1 made by Innovate Motorsports. I can point you to my source if you want or answer any specific questions you might have. Just let me know...

No, I didn't get there until after you made your runs. Too bad, I would have liked to see it.

So EFI Live can do everything LS1 Edit can do? I thought it was just a datalogger app.

It does more actually. EFI Live provides a data logger (Flashscan) and the EFI Live tuning software. It can allow you to log without having the laptop in the car (great for the track) and can also connect directly to an external device (ie wideband oxygen sensor). Maybe one of these weekends when I'm up in Lansing, we can meet up and you can have a look.

There are a couple screen shots from some of the tables on my site. Just click on the link in my sig (see bottom of page 1).

You can also download the software and quite a few tunes from these websites:
www.efilive.com (see download section)
www.holdencrazy.com (stock and modified tunes available)

Excellent. I'll read all of that later.

So the EFI Live software is free?

The software is free...the lisences and hardware required to tune the PCM is not. So, you can download the actual, full version of the software and play with it before you buy it.
