MEAN LT1 11-17-2002, 03:40 PM I have recently purchased this cam from thunderracing and i would like to know of all the people who have ran this cam. How are the idel qualitys. I heard being thats its a xe cam that it wouldnt be as radical as if it were a regular hydraulic cam?. Also im planning on running self aligning 1.6 rollor rockers with this cam and only plan on spinning the motor to 6200rpms, will I run into problems. Oh i am running double coil springs with this setup also.:)
Abdullah 11-18-2002, 05:09 AM i have the same cam but ground on 112 lsa. my LT1 is NA and the idle quality is ok
sure not radical as a 306.
Highlander 11-18-2002, 07:57 PM I have it on a 114 lsa
Idle is GREAT!!!

What do you have your idle set at?. Im probablly going to have to set it highter since im on the stock converter.
Abdullah 11-20-2002, 08:52 AM mine is PCM set at 900 rpm.
Highlander 11-20-2002, 08:58 AM 850

When you mine is..you trying to say that your on the stock converter as well?. Another thing are you guys using slef aligning rockers or non?. I was told not to use the self aligning but have friends that are using self aligning and its fine and i dont plan on spinning that high, only 6200rpm's.
Abdullah 11-20-2002, 04:07 PM my PCM was programmed by Ed Wright for stock heads, hot cam, headers... etc. and i told Ed at that time to set the idle at 900 rpm. i just changed the PE Vs RPM table for the CC XE 224/236 112 lsa cam. i got the PE Vs RPM table from an LT1 file from Mikey 97 M6 Z28. i still have the stock converter. and i set the rev limiter at 6500 rpm but i see the RPMs in the tacometer closer to 6800 rpm on WOT. i also have CC pro magnum non-self aligning 1.6 roller rockers i use guide plates with them. things are pretty good since i did this setup about 3 years ago.
95 Silver TA 01-14-2003, 04:45 PM Hey does anyone else have any info on this same cam CC XE 224/236 on a 114 LSA?
I have a friend that is running 6# of boost (powerdyne), Mac Headers, off road pipe and currently has the the Lingenfelter blower cam 215/220 114 LSA with 510/540 lift. He does have forged pistons and stock heads.
He is looking to upgrade to a bigger cam for more power and that more agressive sound too?
He is looking for a gain of 20-25HP or more.
Will this CC XE 224/236 do the job? or is there a better one for his set up without going Tooo Wild like the cc306 cam?
His 97Z car has a M6 with 3.42 gears.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated!
rskrause 01-14-2003, 06:18 PM When recommending the XE 224/236 to others I have advised a 114lsa 'cause I know it works. It has worked great in all cases that I am aware of but for my own use, I am going with a 116lsa. I guess I am more careful with other people's money than my own!
However, this may a pretty big cam for six pounds of boost, depending on the static CR. What is his CR? What fuel does he run?

95 Silver TA 01-15-2003, 08:22 AM Thanks for replying Rich...
His compression is ~10.4:1 and he runs 93 octane his car. He does plan on getting the car tuned after the cam swap and use the superfuler with (3) 42 injectors and some 24# Svo injectors on the fuel rail.
Highlander 01-15-2003, 09:56 AM I used 30's SVO and 34.8 siemens and I maxed out at 4.5psi doing a 12.9AFR on the dyno...
Maldo 01-15-2003, 04:15 PM Hi guys it’s me who Claude posted for …. Well I figured if I had to go into the motor to fix a couple things then I might as well try to make more power. :D The main reason behind the cam change is money. I wanted to leave the cam I have know and upgrade the heads but the going price for heads does not fit my budget at this point. So i wanted to change the cam to make up for the stock heads and low boost (6lb) and of course the sound.

It sounds like a good setup!

Maldo 01-16-2003, 01:44 PM What are the odds of passing emissions with this cam??? Has anyone passed? And how did you do it ?
FireAm94 01-16-2003, 05:25 PM If people are passing with the cc306 I would imaging there would be no problems with this cam.
Joe
Maldo 01-16-2003, 10:47 PM cool just wanted to see if ti was possible
Maldo 01-18-2003, 10:12 AM oh by the way what is the part number for this cam ... i tryed to orderit from summit and they do not have a listing for it
Thanks,
Jim
rskrause 01-18-2003, 11:00 AM It's a "custom" cam. To order you need to specify the type/year of car, intake and exhaust lobe pn, lsa, and intake center line. Expect to pay close to full list (which is a bit more than an "off-the-shelf" price) for a "custom cam.
lobe #3314 224@0.050" .335" lobe lift
lobe #3192 224@0.050" .378" lobe lift
lobe #3316 236@0.050" .347" lobe lift
lobe #3196 236@0.050" .390" lobe lift
So, you can order a ligh or low lift version using either 3314//3196 or 3192/3196 depending on how high you want to rev it, what springs you plan to use, etc. If you send email to me at my friend Bob's shop I can get a quote for you. Send to my attention at rjk@buffnet.net.

Sorry, but it would be more expensive from my buddy as it's a "custom" order and would also take 10-14days. The cam Thunder Racing has specced out is the low lift version. I think it will work fine, but I'd rather see a 116lsa. The high v. low lift is more complicated, but suffice it to say I am using the high lift version.
Good luck.
Rich Krause
MEAN LT1 01-20-2003, 02:51 PM Im using the one from thunder racing. So im using the low lift version does that mean im not goona make as much power up high?. It says it'll make power all the way up too 6800rpm.
Maldo 01-20-2003, 04:59 PM Where can i get this cam ...... nobody stocks them i am looking to get this by this weekend
Maldo 01-20-2003, 10:47 PM Funny thing is that I tried to buy this cam today and I was told 7-14 days
is there any off the self cams similar to this one I can buy.

I've called looking for this cam before. I got mine on a custom cam gp that thunderracing did. But I also called nu-tek and they stock this same cam. I believe it is the low lift version. Give them a call and see if they have one in stock if ya don't want to wait, they might have one in stock. They did when I called them.

Thunderracing, racenet.net,nu-tek, all these companys have this cam on shelf.
Maldo 01-21-2003, 01:38 PM yeeeeeee haaaaa i got one :D (from thunder racing) I should have it by thrus....
How do you guys think my lt4 hot cam springs hold up agaisnt this cam? (should I change the springs?)
Also does anyone have sound clips for this cam?
Thanks,
Jim
Maldo 01-21-2003, 03:17 PM Dammmmmmmmmmm i just got a call back from thunder racing telling me that they could not complete my order (the guy did not check stock before he took my order)
This is beginning to look like a nightmare to get this cam... Funny I thought that this was a popular cam so I figured that someone would stock the dammmm thing. Oh well I guess I am stuck with my other blower cam for know.....
Does anyone know of anther cam that is similar?
FireAm94 01-21-2003, 03:38 PM Hmm....maybe it's fate telling you that a cam install shouldn't be rushed??? :D

Did you try nu-tek?
MEAN LT1 01-21-2003, 08:29 PM As stated bove, why dont you try nu-tek motorsports and see if they carry it. As far as springs go, im using comp 918 springs dur to the fast ramp rate of this cam and not the lift :)
95 Silver TA 01-22-2003, 08:41 AM We (Maldo and I) both tried calling Places yesterday.
I did call Nu-Tek. He didn't have this cam in stock. He did have the cc306 cam grounded on a 114 LSA but I think that might be a lil to wild for Maldo.
This was the specs he gave me on the CC306 cam:
229/245 114lsa 510in/540ex lift (w/ 1.5RR)
with a 110 intake centerline.
Looks like Maldo might just go with springs and a 1.6 RR with his current Lingefelter cam. He is currently using 1.5 RR.
current cam specs:
215/220 114lsa 510/540 with 1.6RR.
MEAN LT1 01-22-2003, 09:48 AM Are you in such a hurry to put a cam in?, why dont you just wait to get the cam you want and not just settle for that little cam you have there.:)
95 Silver TA 01-22-2003, 10:06 AM He is in a hurry cuz we have the motor completely Apart (out of the car) and will be rebuilding it back on This Friday and have it back in the car running this Saturday. Jim also wanted to get the car tuned in February...So...It is A LOT EASIER to install a cam now (with the motor out of the car).
We know we could do this later but I dont think we want to rip the motor again anytime soon just to install a cam that we could do now and get it over and done with.
Also...Jim is one of those guys that is really in LOVE with his car...he never likes it to be on Jack Stands for more than 2 weeks. He loves driving it and gets pretty impatients and pissed when he cant drive it (hahahahhah) :D
engineermike 01-22-2003, 06:10 PM My car has been on jack stands since October waiting on !@#$% AFR heads!
I've forgotten how it to put it back together.
Mike
cmotorsports.com 01-22-2003, 08:51 PM We have have the 3314/3316 (224/236 @.050", .536"/.555" lift with 1.6 rockers) in stock on a 113lsa and a 114lsa. We also have our stock order coming in tomorrow (hopefully, according to UPS) which has the 3100 series lobe 224/236 cam in it. Thought this might help...

Hi,,, yes I a looking for the low lift version .... On 114 lsa. If I am reading correctly you have this in stock. If possible I would like to order it on Friday and have it overnight to me in NJ 08854 by Sat. I am sorry but I am on a tight timetable and I am trying to get the motor together and in the car by this weekend because the guy who is helping me in is only available to help during the weekend.
Please let me know if this is possible and what you would charge (please email me privately with your price) .... (Any good discounts :D )
Thank you very much,
Jim
Highlander 01-23-2003, 07:21 PM I had the lingenfelter cam... check my sig...
it made peak power at 5140 and then it went free fall...
Crappy cam. I changed to the 224/236 low lift version...
Maldo 01-23-2003, 09:06 PM Hey guys I just got an e-mail back from cmotorsports. They have it. Yeahhhhhhhhhh haaaaaaaa :D I am going to order it first thing in the morning.... know the problem is I also ordered a fresh set of lt4 hot cam springs a few days ago thinking that I was unable to get the cam …. Will these springs work with this cam(with 1.5 rockers) ?
Oh and by the way, as Claude states I love driving my car and yes I am in a rush to drive my baby again …….. (LOL) well I am not that loony but close to it. ;)
Summer is just a few short months away and there is allot of things I need to get done before the summer rolls in. Everyone knows it takes time and money to keep I stout car running in tip-top condition. :D There are other things that are going to take time to get right like tuning etc. so I am trying to cram as my work over the winter as possible (and rebuilding the engine was a surprise, it was sort of like when your wife or girlfriend tells you that they are pregnant) :D
I just don’t want to be stuck in the garage when the weather is nice fixing broken crap.
Also I would like to thank the guys from cmotorsports for their quick response.
Jim
FireAm94 01-23-2003, 10:26 PM Those springs are good to .550 lift so if ur getting the low lift version (.502 .520) u should be good.

No the springs he has will not be sufficient for the cam he has. Its not the lift he has to worry about, its the agressive ramp rate of this cam is why it requires double coil valve springs. When i purchsed this cam a month ago I though the same thing but after speaking with comp cams and thunder racing about it, I was pretty much convinced they were right.
No flame intended fiream 94:)
FireAm94 01-25-2003, 01:49 PM If you're right you're right! No flame taken. Notice the key word "should". ;) Covers ur a$$ and if I were in his shoes...I would be calling comp or cmotorsports.
