I had mine off for over a year or so prior to switching to the new exhaust system and it is still off, I didn't see any problems and the wife never complained about her feet burning or anything when we went out even for some long all day long summer cruises...

Try bending it or sticking some rubber heater hose behind it.

would the rubber heater hose take the heat from the y-pipe?

would the rubber heater hose take the heat from the y-pipe?

Most likley it would. Give it a shot or find some other kind of damping material to go behind it.

An uncatted y-pipe doesn't get really hot. Right near the headers it can be a little hot, but once you get towards the middle of the car the temperature isn't considerable enough to need heat shielding. I pulled it all off and have never had a problem, thats with 95* florida heat too :)

I have had my heat shielding off for over 3 years now with no problems of any excessive heat.

I took off the heat shield and trimmed off the parts that were contacting the y-pipe and header.

Do it, enough people have had no problems. I didn't either. Save it I guess if you are qorried about it, that way you can just slap it back on there.
