Is It Ok To Remove Heatsheild From Under The Y-pipe???playa7970 11-11-2006, 11:34 PM i was wondering if this was ok to do because its rattling and driving me nutz, isnt it just there for the cats anyway? 1SlowFormula 11-11-2006, 11:51 PM I had mine off for over a year or so prior to switching to the new exhaust system and it is still off, I didn't see any problems and the wife never complained about her feet burning or anything when we went out even for some long all day long summer cruises... playa7970 11-12-2006, 12:38 AM cool thanks for the reply can it be removed with the y pipe intacted? wrd1972 11-12-2006, 01:02 AM Try bending it or sticking some rubber heater hose behind it. playa7970 11-12-2006, 01:13 AM would the rubber heater hose take the heat from the y-pipe? wrd1972 11-12-2006, 01:18 AM would the rubber heater hose take the heat from the y-pipe? Most likley it would. Give it a shot or find some other kind of damping material to go behind it. mourningyou 11-12-2006, 08:26 AM An uncatted y-pipe doesn't get really hot. Right near the headers it can be a little hot, but once you get towards the middle of the car the temperature isn't considerable enough to need heat shielding. I pulled it all off and have never had a problem, thats with 95* florida heat too :) 95LT1Z28 11-12-2006, 11:27 AM I have had my heat shielding off for over 3 years now with no problems of any excessive heat. Jeff 2000GTP 11-12-2006, 11:41 AM I took off the heat shield and trimmed off the parts that were contacting the y-pipe and header. johnny3986 11-12-2006, 04:20 PM Do it, enough people have had no problems. I didn't either. Save it I guess if you are qorried about it, that way you can just slap it back on there. | ||
