Towing capacity of lt1 T-56
Towing capacity of lt1 T-56
Theres a crashed camaro for sale here locally, I was wondering if I was to plop the LT1 and the T-56 into my truck would it be able to handle a 6000 lb trailor?
I figure the small block has the power for it with the appropriate downshifting where necessary but what about the hydraulic clutch?
Would appreciate any help Thanks.

Re: Towing capacity of lt1 T-56
should work they have LSx based engines in trucks now. As long as your gears in the rear are lower you should be good. Not sure about the T-56 though let someone else give advise on that one.
Re: Towing capacity of lt1 T-56
Is there some weakness to the T-56 that would keep it from being good to use for towing?
Its only a few times a year I tow anything more than 3000lbs.
I thought that the limiting factor would be the hydraulic clutch slipping.

My '94 Silverado LT4 powered truck, tows the GN ona trailer 200 miles round trip every month
Has the factory rear gears in it, but it is an A4 instead of a M6. Keep in the lower gears when towing you should be fine, just don't try accellerating too fast with a load, I could see where that may cause some slippage.

Re: Towing capacity of lt1 T-56
No weakness on the T56 its just not geared for towing a trailor thats all.
Let me put it this way... even though you can tow with it you will hunt for gears like you wouldn't believe in traffic and you'll shread OEM clutches like paper from having to slip the clutch. There may or may not be tow clutches available but bottom line is The BW T56 to my knowlage was designed for sports cars and sport trucks. You put it behind a V8 or V10 and have a whole lot of fun.
