Key stuck in Lock position. 02 Firebird

So today I was out running errands in the wife's 02 Friebird, got out, did my thing, came back and the key would not turn in the cylander... AAA came out and ended up having to tow it home....

So, how hard is it to replace the lock cylander? Is this something best left for the experts??

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Key stuck in Lock position. 02 Firebird

its kinda a PITA!

i had to do it on my 85...didn't have the airbag to worry about, so it might be a little harder on the 02.

Not sure how much its changed, but basically you just use a puller, take off as much as you can until you can get to the torx screw that holds the cylinder in...replace the cylinder and put everything back on.

like i said, i have no clue how to work with airbags or how much of a problem that will be, hopefully someone else knows.

A shop or dealer would probably charge you quite a bit, you might want to do it yourself
