Well i was out just sitting in the local hot spot waiting for something interesting to drive bye. A 05 mustang flys bye so i go after him.

We line up on the highway but for some reson he dose not want to race. Then a Golf GTI just Flys bye doing about 90, im doing a good 70 mph.

So im thinking screw the mustang and went after the GTI. It was sad. im hauling ass and get next to him doing about 100. I did not know he was flooring it untill i hit 90. i let off the gas and he pulls ahead. so i gun it again and just pull on him like crazy. bye the time i hit 120
i had about 6-7 car lengths on the guy. i stop because im not a big fan of cops and he just keeps on going. I know those things are fast down low but i never knew the top end sucked so much.

It was fun though. ive been in a few and thought they where quite quick from a low role

The GTI's with the 1.8T engine feel decently quick until you really put your foot in it, and hen they fall on their ass. I've driven tons of them, and the fun is over by ~4,500 RPM. Even the nwer 225 HP(as opposed to 180 HP) 1.8T's in the Audi TT's fall on their ass.

Now, if one were so inclined they could make a monster out of a GTI. My buddy at work has a 2000 GTI with a larger turbo, large FMIC, better rods, etc..., and it will eat my car for lunch. That thing is ridiculous. He maybe has $5K invested. Before the rods and upgraded heads he was only running ~21 psi and shutting it down at 7K, and still pulled 315 WHP with a slipping clutch. I can't imagine what it would do now with an 8200 RPM redline and 25 psi.

i raced a 2003 jetta with the 1.8l turbo against a 1995 lincoln town car, and the town car had 1 1/2 cars on the jetta.lol, they feel fast when you are in them but they actually arent fast at all.By the way, i was driving the town car.

Town Cars can be very educational.

In the early 90s I had my first new car, a 92 Eclipse 2.0 non-turbo, and thought I was doing pretty well. I wasn't into speed back then - it was all about the stereo in those days. Still, it had 135 hp instead of the 90hp my old Corolla had so I thought it was pretty tough.

One day I ended up next to my brother driving my grandparent's Town Car and just for fun we decided to try 'em out. I was totally stunned when the Town Car not only left me when the light turned green, but passed me with ease and pulled in front of me, all while I was still WOT and rowing through the gears like a madman.

It was that day I decided that maybe my car wasn't so quick after all. Two years later I traded it on a turbo model :D
