what perameters should you monitor when doing an Auto Tap scan to get the best overall information when just checking and there are no problems with the car. My intent is to see where I can start trying to reprogram to improve performance and need to know what to monitor.

Look over my "scanner" writeup and it will give some info on the parameters that are important and what they mean.

I would suggest that you have to customize the readings you take based on the kind of problem you are trying to solve. The more data you record, the longer the interval between data points, and the less visibility you have to the issues.
As a minimum:
-RPM
-MPH
-Coolant temp
-Inlet air temp
-MAP
-TPS volts
-TPP percent
-IAC counts
-MAF
-Cell
-Long term fuel, left and right ("counts" only, not necessary to do both counts and %)
-Short term fuel, left and right (counts only)
-O2 sensors, left and right - generally, you don't need the after-cat values, unless you are chasing down a cat or O2 sensor problem.
-Pulse widths, left and right
-Timing advance
-Timing retard - deg and counts
-EGR %
-EEC %
On several of the parameters, you can indicate both sensor "value" reading and sensor "voltage" readings....e.g. IAT, coolant, MAP. Do not bother with both of these. I would use the "value" reading..... degrees, kPa..... not the voltage on most of these. The exception is TPS, which should be recorded in both "V" and "%".
You do not need a seperate column for "BAR"... this is barometric pressure. Manually record it at the start of the log.
Make sure you do not put a time stamp on each individual reading... only on each "record" (full line of data). Adds nothing and clutters/slows down the log.
If you are looking at certain problems, you can eliminate things like EGR and EEC duty cycles.
