What issues could I run into if it's not balanced properly? Let's say I get a new flywheel entirely and I don't get it balanced. I'm just curious what would happen.

The stock LT1 flywheel is not neutrally balanced, therefore you can't have it balanced unless you're going to have the engine rebuilt and have the rotating assembly balanced. As Rich stated, you should be fine just bolting it up.

when i did the swap i had the flywheel that came off the engine from the a4 and had the one from the t56 car balance matched to the one from mine. just an extra precaution recommended to me by a member on here seeing as the LT1 from the factory is balanced by the flywheel, not sure if it helped any but i have no engine vibration so may be a worthy precaution.

Have it Zero Balanced...if you dont...throws off the way the engine and everything inside is balanced...get it zero balanced...

LT1 is externally balanced in the rear.

I went from an auto to M6 with no balancing issues, just bolted up the flywheel and went, no trauma..

DON'T let anyone neutrally balance your flywheel.
